The Appeal
Originally registered as a road car in 1981, this striking, late-model Talbot Avenger was later built as a Targa Rally car, with the renowned Chrysler rally preparation specialist Mal Stuart named as its builder.
Since the seller took possession around 2020, the car has been resprayed white and now features bright blue 'Avenger Tiger' graphics, as featured on the original Chrysler Avenger Tiger of the early 1970s. Blue Revolution four-spoke wheels, a Tiger rear spoiler, deep front spoiler (described as 'period-correct' by the seller), mud flaps, compact door mirrors and four front spotlights complete the competition look.
Beneath the bonnet, the very well-presented 1.6-litre engine has been modified; the seller says they have fitted an Avenger GT camshaft, twin Weber carburettors and Ralloy radiator to increase performance. Other modifications have been carried out, as shown in the pictures.
The interior of the car also reflects its intended purpose. A full roll cage with removable door bars is fitted, together with harness seat belts. The seller states that the front seats are from a Honda Civic; the rear seats are intact though not usable currently due to the roll cage and front harness seat belts. Other features include a flocked dashboard, deep-dish small-diameter steering wheel, co-driver-style footrest in passenger footwell and fire extinguisher. The boot has been de-trimmed.
The seller says they have stored the car in a garage since purchasing it, and have only used it during the summer months.
The sale of this car is an opportunity to enjoy visceral rear-wheel drive experiences, whether on the road or in Targa Rally-style competition.image.png1.09 MB
