The Appeal

Good and as sonorous as the V6 engined cars are, the Pinto-powered Mk3 cars are the hidden gems of the Capri range. What they give up in outright power, these lightweight cars gain in sheer tyre-smoking, chuckable fun. This late model Laser leans firmly into that idea with a host of improvements neatly applied by its current long term keeper.

The vendor is only the car’s second keeper, acquiring it in 2004 with plans to develop it as a track weapon. The result was a comprehensive bodywork restoration and repaint plus mechanical upgrades. The engine has been mildly tuned with a big valve head, a Newman stage 3 cam, and a raised compression ratio. The brakes, a common capri bugear, have been heavily revised and the suspension overhauled with front and rear polybushing, rear strut brace and lowering. Cosmetically, the car sits on refurbished 15-inch Ford Brooklands wheels while inside there is a fabric Recaro cabin taken from a 2.8.

We’re told that during this work no metal was cut, meaning the car could be returned to standard specification or developed further for motorsport use. The large history file documents the work and dates back to the car’s early days. It comes with a current MOT valid to May 2027. By age it is eligible for Historic Vehicle status, making it tax and MOT exempt.
