- MOT valid until March 2027
The Appeal
The Volvo 940 is one of the definitive Swedish estate cars of its era, combining upright, squared-off styling with a comfortable interior, generous load space and the reassuringly robust engineering for which the marque became known.
Particularly well regarded among Volvo enthusiasts, the 940 represents one of the last traditional rear-wheel-drive models before the company moved more decisively towards its later front-wheel-drive designs. Closely related to the earlier 700 Series, it retained the same emphasis on durability, practicality and long-distance comfort.
This example is fitted with the low-pressure 2.3-litre engine, a notably unstressed unit that is well suited to covering high mileages when properly maintained. It is also generously equipped for the period, with features including a heated and electrically adjustable driver’s seat, climate control, cruise control and an electric sunroof.
Purchased by the seller some 25 years and 100,000 miles ago, the car has since served as a much-loved family estate. Now ready for its next owner, it offers an appealing opportunity to acquire a usable and characterful modern classic, well suited to regular use, longer journeys or simply as a highly practical slice of old-school Volvo engineering.
