The appeal
With its elegant, sculpted bodywork—decidedly more modern and more radical than the T-types that came before it—the MGA brought MG firmly into the modern era, and it has since become a sure bet on the classic car scene on both sides of the English Channel. For many, it was the first real sign that car design had entered an entirely new world—and it dragged the great British sports car into a new decade, without pulling any punches.
This 1961 example was bought in December 2019 from a Strasbourg coachbuilder’s workshop, as a wreck, and then received a full restoration, from the underside up, over more than two years. Originally, it was an American export model: the car was completely stripped—body, chassis and mechanical components—then carefully rebuilt. The engine, braking system, exhaust line, fuel supply and wiring loom have all been renewed, while the body has been resprayed in Old English White, an authentic period MG colour.
Now this beautiful car is coming to auction, waiting for its lucky new owner—no doubt they’ll find a fantastic, rewarding classic. dsc09360.jpeg363.37 KB

This sale is subject to Car & Classic’s general conditions of sale. By bidding and/or making an offer, you also agree to the following:
✓ The seller is registered as a private seller, which means that consumer rights arising from European consumer protection legislation do not apply. However, you are still covered by Car & Classic’s general conditions of sale.
✓ We require that non-refundable fees are paid if you are the successful bidder or if your offer is accepted. Please refer to our FAQs and conditions of sale for the specific rates.
✓ This vehicle is “sold as is”, on a “this is what it is and it’s where it is” basis and without any warranty. The photos and descriptions are provided for guidance only and it’s standard practice to carry out a full inspection of the vehicle before purchase for your own peace of mind.
✓ VAT is included in the buyer’s deposit. VAT may or may not be included in the final price of the offer or submission, as specified in the listing.
✓ We want the transaction to run smoothly for you, just as we want it to for ourselves, and that’s why UK-registered cars and motorcycles listed on Car & Classic are subject to an HPI check to confirm they don’t show any insurance database markers for damage or theft, and that they aren’t subject to any financial charge or lien—allowing you to bid with confidence.
✓ We also check whether the vehicles are recorded as being written off following a total loss claim when the advert is placed on Car & Classic and we provide category labels for write-offs (Cat C/D/S/N) to help you. However, the presence or absence of a label doesn’t guarantee the vehicle’s status, and it’s always helpful to carry out a full vehicle history check before placing a bid.
✓ Buyers are responsible for collection or delivery of the vehicle. Importing vehicles may involve additional customs duties and import taxes. If you’d like, we can recommend a third-party shipping company that can help. For more details and to speak with the team, email auctions@carandclassic.com.
