Buyer’s favourite
Designed by Wilhelm Hofmeister, the BMW E9 coupe draws you in with its long, flowing silhouette and elegant, pillarless design (“pillarless”). Paired with the famous M30 straight-six—known for its smoothness and reliability—it set the template for BMW’s future great sporting coupes, including the mythical 3.0 CSL. More than fifty years after its launch, it remains one of the most sought-after models from this era.
This example was delivered new in France on 3 June 1970 and has been part of the current owner’s private collection for several years. It benefits from a handful of carefully chosen upgrades, including 16-inch Alpina wheels and Bilstein dampers matched with short springs. According to the seller, these changes significantly improve road manners while preserving the model’s original character. All original components have been kept and will be handed to the buyer, allowing a return to factory specification if desired.

Overall, it’s highly authentic and still carries all the charm of the great 1970s grand tourers. The bodywork appears healthy and well preserved for its age. Only a few stone chips are reported on the silver paint. The 16-inch Alpina wheels add subtle presence, while the original wheels are also supplied for anyone wanting to return to a fully factory-correct configuration.
The cabin is just as appealing. It shows lovely patina, with a few normal signs of wear on the seats—mainly slight dulling and some scuffing on the side bolsters. The wood inserts in the dashboard appear complete and in excellent condition, while the Moto-Lita steering wheel adds a sporty touch without spoiling the period feel.image.png1.74 MB
