The heart-throb
Designed by Wilhelm Hofmeister, the BMW E9 coupé wins you over with its sleek, flowing silhouette and elegant pillarless (‘pillarless’) architecture. Paired with the famed M30 straight-six, celebrated for its flexibility and reliability, it laid the groundwork for the Bavarian marque’s future great sporting coupés, including the legendary 3.0 CSL. More than fifty years after its launch, it remains one of the most sought-after models from this era.
This particular example was delivered new in France on 3 June 1970 and has been part of its current owner’s private collection for several years. It benefits from a few carefully chosen upgrades, including 16-inch Alpina wheels and Bilstein dampers with short springs. According to the seller, these changes significantly improve road manners while still preserving the model’s spirit. All original parts have been kept and will be handed to the buyer, allowing a return to factory specification if desired.

Very authentic overall, this 2800 CS retains all the charm of the great coupés of the 1970s. The bodywork appears sound and well cared for despite its age. Only a few light stone-chip marks are noted on the silver paint. The 16-inch Alpina wheels add a discreet touch, while the original wheels are included for those who would like to return to a fully original specification.
The cabin is just as appealing. It shows a lovely patina, with a few normal signs of wear on the seats—mainly a slight dulling and some rubbing on the side bolsters. The wood inserts on the dashboard appear complete and in excellent condition, while the Moto-Lita steering wheel adds a sporty touch without spoiling the period feel.image.png1.74 MB
