The Appeal
Just 40 magnificent Mercedes-Benz SSKs were built, but their influence has reached much further. As beautiful as they were capable, they won accolades across the world’s race circuits between the wars and remain a key part of the Stuttgart firm’s illustrious history.
For those looking to engage with some of the car’s style there was the Classic Motor Carriage company of Florida. It created the Gazelle kit, influenced by the SSK, which could be assembled by enthusiasts at home. On completion they got a distinctive vintage-style car quite unlike any other.
Most Gazelles were built around simple Volkswagen structures and running gear. But not this one. It was assembled on a sturdy GMC frame and sports a potent 3.4litre Ford Mercury V6 which, at 225hp, gives similar power to the original SSKs.
We are told the car has covered just 3,600 miles since completion. It arrives on the market with USA title and European importation documents with all duties and VAT paid For enthusiasts of something genuine quite different, here is your opportunity.
