The Appeal

The well-known jewel in Oxford's crown, Morris, had built a reputation for producing well-built, usable cars based on conventional and therefore DIY friendly packages during a period that is frequently known as  the "Golden age of motoring”. This is inherently the Morris 10/4’s main appeal to this day, as it once served as a roomy and reliable workhorse whose traits have not diminished over this example's 90-year lifetime.
This 1933 Morris 10/4 finished in a very appealing green colourway has benefited from a ground-up restoration in the late 1980s. Believed to have been retained by the owner's son until relatively recently, it saw very little use and has been since obtained by a vintage car collector as part of their collection. Mechanically sound, with a very clean interior and presentable body, the car will benefit from a light mechanical check-over. It has very little in terms of provenance, but it’s not impossible for the new potential owner to carry out their own investigation work. It will come with its V5 registration document.

The History and Paperwork

  • No appreciable history documented with the car
  • Declared to have only three previous owners
  • Believed to have been restored from scratch in the late 1980s
  • Odometer was taken to zero in 1990 following the restoration
  • Nominal mileage since
  • MOT and tax exempt
  • V5c present
  • Part of a dry stored collection
  • Carries its original transferable number plate

The Interior

  • The matching green interior presentation is very positive
  • Wood capping in good order
  • Leather seats in good shape with minimal wear
  • Decent carpets with no signs of dampness
  • Minor signs of age on instruments
  • Light wear on the steering wheel
  • Door cards and headlining all present and correct

The Exterior

  • Coach-built saloon with suicide doors and sliding roof
  • Solid chassis
  • Body free of significant damage, with minor signs of light blemishes on panel work
  • No discernible corrosion observed on the body panels
  • Doors open and close freely
  • Wings in good shape with neatly applied paint
  • Body paint has a good colour match and is coach painted, adding an attractive period texture
  • Chrome is in good shape with no significant signs of pitting
  • Charming ‘Traffic light’ turn indicators with rear repeaters also fitted
  • Original radiator-mounted winged temperature gauge
  • Glass and running boards in good shape
  • Lights and lenses are free of damage. All are said to function.
  • 19-inch wheels are in good condition with tyres showing plenty of tread

The Mechanics

  • The wet cork clutch is temporarily sticking - the vendor will ensure this is resolved prior to the handover
  • 1292cc side valve engine starts and runs well
  • May need a light mechanical check-over before prolonged use
  • Lockheed hydraulic brakes are said to be fit for purpose
  • The engine presents well with healthy-looking components
  • The hoses and radiator appear intact
  • Electric fuel pump fitted
  • Steers within its expected remit
  • Suspension components in visibly good shape
  • Good condition exhaust system

Summary

This well-restored and solid example would be perfect for those who have a passion for pre-war motoring, with plenty of practicality, space and charm. As one of the earlier examples of the long-running Morris 10 series models, the quality of its restoration has meant the car still presents very positively which bodes well and should be encouraging news for those who are not afraid of a little tinkering here and there.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
