The Appeal
After the 1929 Wall Street Crash and subsequent ‘Great Depression’ all but put pay to expensive motor cars, manufacturers were forced to develop more affordable vehicles if they were to weather the storm. Britain's Standard Motor Company did well during the early ‘30s with new Nine and Ten models, providing a much-needed injection of cash to develop the more innovative ‘Flying’ Standards which came to market in 1936.
Incorporating all-new streamlined bodywork, this Standard Flying Twelve cut quite the figure in 1936 and is to this day a handsome motor car that still works as its makers intended 88 years ago. These are among the most usable pre-war cars around, and as all vehicles of this age benefit from MOT and road tax exemption, they’re simple and inexpensive to run.
For those seeking a well-sorted example, our car benefits from a recent mechanical overhaul and is driven regularly. Resplendent with age-commensurate patina, this supremely usable Standard is a very appealing proposition.
