Ford Type-9 five-speed gearbox conversion by Hi Gear Engineering
23,611 miles indicated and believed correct by the vendor
Superb overall condition
Accompanied by a substantial history file dating back to the 1980s
The Appeal
Car design was moving at a rate of knots during the 1950s, so by contrast, MG’s initial post-war offerings, the TC, TD and TF looked old-fashioned and lagged behind in terms of performance.
The MGA changed everything. Its Le Mans-honed aerodynamic styling was very fashionable at the time, and the MGA also showcased the soon-to-be legendary ‘B Series’ engine. While many of the survivors, even here in the UK, are re-imported left-hand drive US-spec cars, here we have a right-hand drive home market MGA Roadster 1600 from 1959.
It’s in very good overall condition following an older restoration and the vendor believes the 23,611 indicated miles to be an accurate figure. We’re informed that the MG is well-known in enthusiast circles, starring in television programmes such as ‘Antiques Road Trip’, appearing in several publications and even taking centre stage at several weddings. Its usability has been enhanced by the fitment of a five-speed Ford ‘Type-9’ gearbox and the car benefits from a recent service carried out by the vendor’s workshop.
If you’re in the market for a pampered MGA that’s supremely usable and ready to go, this is a very promising candidate.
