The Attractions
Although Alfa Romeo had already enjoyed great success before the war, the 101 Series marked a turning point in the brand's history. Whereas in the past it had only produced high-performance cars destined for wealthy aristocrats who used them to race around Europe and win races, the 101 was the first of its compact coupes.
With four-cylinder twin-shaft engines designed by Giuseppi Busso, these cars were offered at more affordable prices than previous models, as Alfa intended to sell them in much higher numbers than it had ever done before. With hindsight, we know that the gamble paid off and the 101 Series cars paved the way for the 105 Series, perhaps the most successful four-cylinder sports car platform of all time.
Here we have a splendid Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint 101, a sporty coupé designed by Bertone, famous for its excellent driving qualities and lively performance. Having received a thorough restoration, it presents itself beautifully in every respect and the seller assures us that it drives very well indeed.
For those looking for an attractive sports coupe that is as exciting to drive as it is to admire, this seems the ideal choice.
