Styled by Pininfarina, the Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 has to be one of the most beautiful four-seater coupés ever made.
Around 330 were constructed at Maranello between 1964 and 1967, with just over 40 of those in right-hand-drive. Powered by Ferrari’s 300bhp 4.0-litre V12, the 330 was a wonderful, powerful and distinctive Grand Tourer, with a luxury interior and a phenomenal soundtrack.
This one is an absolute stunner. An original UK RHD car, it has been carefully preserved and repaired over the years with localised body repairs but is a genuine low-mileage example that has never been stripped or restored.
It was ordered when new for its first owner, a company director in London, by Maranello Concessionaires, and comes with some amusing correspondence from when it was first ordered, shortly after the model was announced, between John Coombs from Maranello, Colonel “Ronnie” Hoare – who was handling the purchase – and the original owner, who tried to reject the car when new thanks to a number of issues. It’s a fascinating read – little did they know that this once unwanted 330 GT would go on to survive 58 years later as a truly wonderful and extremely rare example.
Today, you certainly won’t want to reject it. It’s a thing of intense beauty, presented in wonderful order and with a carefully collated history file that tells a story all of its own.
Climb into the 330GT and you’re met by a cabin that feels very special indeed – trimmed in Nuvola Blue leather on the seats, door cards and centre console, with a parchment leather headlining and a delicate, beautiful wood-rimmed steering wheel.
It’s a cabin with a wonderful ambience and the gentlest of patinas. There’s no wear and tear as such, but nor does it feel brand new. Just classically elegant, smart and clean, and with all its original trim and switchgear in very good, functional order. It’s lovely and it wears an originality that a restored car could never fully match.
Recent localised paint and body repairs totalling £4,800
All original chrome and trim
Finished in smart Blu Sera metallic, the 330GT is a handsome brute no matter which angle you look at it from. It sits wide and low on the road, the harmonious Pininfarina styling disguising its surprising bulk. This is a car that’s almost as large as a Jensen Interceptor or Aston Martin DBS, but less overtly so. Indeed, its sweeping lines and delicate chrome details have a far more streamlined appearance to them.
It's in wonderful order, the vendor having recently spent over £4,800 having some small areas of bodywork tidied up to bring it back to absolutely fantastic condition. The bumpers were also refurbished by a respected rechroming company.
It’s not concours – there are a couple of very tiny areas of pitting in the chrome around the headlights, but nothing that would put you off as the car’s originality is something else. It just sits right and looks right, while the underside appears to be in solid and strong condition, as backed up by an advisory-free MOT.
Lift the bonnet of any Ferrari and you’re greeted with not just an engine, but also a work of art, and the compact Ferrari V12 is no exception. From its monogrammed rocker covers to its triple Weber carburettors atop the engine, it’s a wonderful thing to admire.
It runs beautifully, too, firing up on the first twist of the key and – once warm – holding a steady and even idle, good oil pressure and an even temperature.
The vendor reports that it’s a great car to drive, with excellent performance for its age and no known or apparent running faults. It has been serviced in his ownership and has also had a full front suspension rebuild, which the owner carried out in his own workshop using genuine parts. It has also had most of its rubber components replaced in the past couple of years, all original and imported from Italy. Four new tyres were fitted in 2019 and are still in good condition.
It has also had a Coopercraft brake upgrade for extra stopping power, though the vendor will supply the original brake parts with the car should the new owner wish to return it to standard.
Not only is this a wonderful car in every respect, from its drop-dead gorgeous styling to its fantastic overall condition, but it’s also one with a fascinating and carefully documented history, which will add further to its already enormous appeal. It’s a car for the true connoisseur and a fabulous addition to any private collection, as well as being wholly road legal and ready to drive.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.
Anti-sniping
Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.
