Just 22,375 kilometres indicated and believed correct based on the car’s remarkable history
One former registered keeper in Italy prior to import
The Appeal
After establishing itself as an enormously successful manufacturer of very small cars, Italian auto giant Fiat set about developing a new platform upon which they could introduce a wider range of body styles. Based loosely around the 600, the Fiat 850 was offered in Sedan, Coupé, Spider and even Familiare (van) form.
The 850 Coupé in particular was an exceedingly pretty car, and we’re delighted to bring to market this stunning 1965 example. The vendor acquired it from a dealer who imported the car from its first registered keeper in Italy. It’s exceedingly original throughout, even down to the paintwork, and we’re informed that it has never required welding. There are just 22,375 kilometres indicated on the odometer, and since the car has spent most of its life tucked away in an Italian garage, this would appear to be an accurate figure.
These little 850s are becoming challenging to find, especially in the UK where the condition of this example is almost unique. For collectors of Italian automobiles, this surely represents an unmissable opportunity.
The History and Paperwork
The first owner in Italy was a Second World War fighter pilot who reportedly damaged his eyesight in a WWII dogfight - in later years this resulted in his eyesight deteriorating to the extent he could no longer drive the car four years after buying it
The Fiat sat in its garage after the original keeper died in 1974, until it was imported to the UK by a dealer
The vendor acquired the car from the dealer, making them the second registered keeper
Exempt from road tax and MOT testing
UK road registered and V5C present
The car underwent extensive recommissioning work while in Italy prior to import for which a list is visible in the photo gallery
Several invoices for parts and servicing present along with various Italian registration documents

There are a few age-commensurate blemishes, paint chips and a small dent on the leading edge of the front valance
The chrome appears in very good order considering its age
The car’s underside looks to be in fabulous order
The steel wheels present well, as do the Fiat-branded hubcaps and Vredestein tyres
Impeccble original interior
Barely any wear apparent to the upholstery and controls, commensurate with the low mileage
The ribbed rubber floor matting presents impeccably throughout
The dashboard does not appear cracked
No obvious splits to the seats and door cards
The instruments and switchgear present well
The Mechanics
843 cc four-cylinder petrol engine
Four-speed manual gearbox
