“I am not a number – I am a free man” – so goes the famous quote from the 1960s TV Series The Prisoner, where the Welsh village of Portmeirion became a modern day equivalent of George Orwell’s 1984, but with Mini Mokes thrown in for good measure.
It became a cult series, and on the back of it the Moke became a cult car, despite its rudimentary buggy layout and canvas top being completely impractical for the British climate.
This one is currently in captivity in Norfolk, waiting to get out, having just been imported from the dry climate of upstate South Africa.
It’s a project car, meaning it will require a fair bit of work before it returns to the road, but it is pretty solid throughout and is entirely complete – not that there’s much to a Moke to start with. Here, then, is your chance to create a Moke from a blank canvas. Your own restoration project, personalised and finished however you want it to be. After all, you’re not just a number…

Two-spoke steering wheel
Delightfully basic and standard order
THE EXTERIOR

THE MECHANICS
Believed to be a 998cc BMC A-Series
Four-speed manual
Moke was not running at the time of the photographs as the fuel tank had been removed to be cleaned, but will be sold in running order. However, although it will be running the Mini has not been used for some time and it will need a full mechanical going-over before use, along with the renewal of safety critical brake components.
SUMMARY
This is a fabulous opportunity – a blank canvas to create a Mini Moke to your own individual vision. It’s a seemingly very solid car that shouldn’t require much – if anything – in terms of structural work and which can be finished and personalised in all manner of ways, standard or modified. The vendor is also very close to a Mini specialist in Norfolk who should be able to take on some of the restoration work if you require.
