It's with good reason that the Jaguar E-Type remains perennially popular. Just look at it. Drive one, and it'll become even more obvious why they remain people's idea of the quintessential British sports car.
This 1967 example is a desirable Series 1 E-Type in Open Two Seater (OTS) specification. It's a left-hand drive car, originally supplied to the USA via a New York dealer. it has been in Sweden since 1987.
Here we have one of the very few surviving examples of a Series 1 OTS that remains unrestored. It has had some work over the years, of course, including a full respray and a rebuild of its 4.2-litre XK engine.
As the photograph shows, the Jag presents beautifully, ready to meet its next custodian.
Interior shows a rich patina commensurate with its commendable originality
All features in the cabin work properly, we are told
The vendor tells us that while this E-Type has been refinished and its engine has been rebuilt, it has never undergone a full restoration. This makes it rare, and there's a charm to an original car that has never been substantially apart, which can get lost during an extensive restoration. The bodywork, paint and trim all present very well. The same can be said for the folding soft top, which reportedly operates correctly. The car's cabin is remarkably patina, as befits its age, and we're informed that all the instruments and switchgear appear to work correctly.
Later E-Types gained a 4.2-litre engine, replacing the original 3.8-litre unit. These changes weren't made in the name of more power, but instead to increase torque. Motorways were cropping up rapidly during the 1960s, and the new 4.2-litre version of the CK straight-six allowed E-Type drivers to overtake fellow road users without the need to change down a gear. Our example has had its engine rebuilt, and we're informed that it runs very well indeed. All presents in exceedingly good order under the bonnet, and the vendor tells us that the E-Type drives beautifully.image.png1.19 MB BEFORE YOU BUY
