 • Impressive and extensive history file

The Appeal

This is an amazing opportunity to purchase a stunning example of a Series 1 E-Type that has had all the hard work done for you.
Having only covered 7,000 miles since the complete restoration and re paint of the entire car, means it is ready to be thoroughly enjoyed by its new owner.

The History and Paperwork

 • Comprehensive restoration between 2002 and 2004
 • Completed just 7,000 miles since
 • Restorative process included bare metal respray
 • All mechanical components renewed/replaced and engine overhauled
 • MOT tested every year since with current expiring in October 2022
 • Agreed insurance valuation certificate provided
 • History extensively documented with invoices
 • Production Record Trace Certificate from Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust
 • Car owners manual, Jaguar Service manual, Jaguar Parts listing, original 1967 Jaguar advertising brochure
 • V5 log book present and correct
The current owner, who is a former aircraft engineer, acquired the car from E Type specialist, "E Type UK" and maintains the car to a tremendously high standard and is only now selling to free up time to focus on other projects.

The Interior

 • Excellent condition interior with some characterful patina
 • Seats retrimmed in black leather with red piping
 • Carpets in excellent order
 • Switchgear and dials working correctly
The interior condition of this fabulous E-Type is excellent overall. The upholstery has been retrimmed at some point in its life, and the black leather seats with red piping look absolutely at home in what the vendor describes as a cabin with a thoroughly pleasant aged patina.
Steering wheel, dashboard and headlining all look great with no significant marks or damage to note. Interior carpet is in fantastic shape throughout.
There are no modifications to speak of and even the vinyl boot floor is tidy, with the very good condition spare wheel and original Jaguar jack and tool kit present underneath.
One minor fault is the interior clock, which does not work.

The Exterior

 • Bare metal Carmen Red respray in 2002
 • Excellent condition chrome wire wheels
 • Tremendous condition underneath
 • Fixtures and fittings all very nice
The owner grades the paintwork as an 8 out of 10, stating that it is really very nice overall with some minor blemishes and the odd stone chip here and there. There are no major dents or scratches to speak of anywhere on the car.
The 2002 restoration was certainly done to a high standard and the bright Carmen Red paintwork gleams in the sunshine, accentuated by the very good condition brightwork and beautiful chrome wire wheels. All four tyres have good tread on them, too.
The owner states that the car is “as clean underneath as it is on top” with no corrosion or rust, a point which is demonstrated by the undercar photographs.

The Mechanics

 • Engine runs perfectly with strong oil pressure
 • Stainless steel twin exhaust system
 • Drives beautifully with excellent road handling and braking performance
 • No mechanical faults to note
The car is very usable thanks to a fantastically strong 4.2-litre engine that runs with no problems and no smoke, and sounds absolutely brilliant under acceleration thanks to the tasteful stainless steel exhaust system.
An XJ6 4-speed gearbox with overdrive is currently fitted to the car, which operates faultlessly and makes the car a comfortable cruiser on the motorway. However, an original 4-speed box is supplied should the new owner wish to revert the car back to its original specification, the gearbox, as well as being extremely rare, has a current market value of approximately £2,000
Steering, suspension and braking systems all work as they should, resulting in a car that not only accelerates well but handles very nicely, just as Jaguar intended.
There are no mechanical faults that the owner is aware of that require immediate attention.

Summary

This is a stunning and very well sorted example of a classic Jaguar E-Type that’s very usable as an everyday classic car, especially with its upgraded gearbox.
Because all the hard restoration work has already been done, those lusting after their dream E-Type will not be disappointed by this irresistible piece of British motoring history.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
