The Appeal

The E-Type, possibly one of the best cars to roll off an English production line. Since its inception in 1961, the model has sent car people around the world into a frenzy. There is nothing like looking at one of these elegant big cats rolling past you.

This example has been privy to a bit of work over the past few years. This work has taken the original Series 2 into new realms, with more power and a completely overhauled interior it is now ready to go on its next adventure.

The History and Paperwork

  • Starting life out at Henley’s of London, this Series 2 E-Type went on to live an interesting life
  • It is more than likely that the car enjoyed the time with its previous 4 owners
  • But it is the current owner who has put the most amount of work into this wonderful example
  • Sending the car to Gibsons Classics receives a lot of attention
  • The original car is stripped right back to bare metal and was subsequently dipped
  • Any panels that were beyond repair were replaced
  • Along with the bodywork, a lot of work was done to the mechanical and interior elements
  • Starting with the mechanical components, the front and rear brakes were upgraded to Fosseway brakes, the handbrake was also upgraded
  • It also now has a 5-speed manual gearbox
  • Fuel injection was also fitted to give a more reliable delivery of fuel
  • A 6-branch big bore exhaust was fitted
  • Then an aluminium radiator was sourced along with an electric cooling system
  • The throttle was upgraded and then Gaz shocks were fitted all round
  • The alternator and starter motor were then upgraded as well
  • A new, racing-derived, clutch had to be sourced to deal with the extra power
  • A poly bush kit was fitted along with an anti-roll bar upgrade to the front and rear
  • The interior also had a lot of work, bespoke was fitted, along with an Alcantara dash and steering wheel, and a full DAB touchscreen radio was fitted as well
  • On the outside the bonnet was de-seemed and LED headlights were fitted
  • Since completion just over 300 miles have been completed, meaning that it is still practically box-fresh and ready to go
  • There is a little bit of paperwork that will come with the car
  • This includes a heritage certificate, a spec sheet from Gibsons Classics, and several invoices for the parts
  • The recent work will preserve this E-Type long into the future
  • With the modern features as well it will be super easy to live with and fun to drive long distances
  • A complete no expense spared restoration, costing in excess of £125k, inc. fully rebuilt engine now producing 300bhp

The Interior

  • Total interior overhaul
  • Bespoke trim
  • DAB touchscreen radio
  • Alcantara elements
  • Modern features with a classic feel
Opening the door of this E-Type you are presented with a modern feeling space placed neatly in the heart of this classic icon.  The interior of this E type has been skilfully re-trimmed in expensive soft red leather. The original seats have been removed and replaced with some more figure holder leather-trimmed seats sourced from an MX-5. They have been trimmed with some lovely diamond-patterned red leather that matches the exterior colour. You’ll also find a Jaguar logo pressed into the headrest, a nice little feature. Unsurprisingly these seats are in lovely condition, having only completed 300 miles since being fitted, they are pretty much still like new.

To match the new seats, there is a new dash. Trimmed up top in expensive Alcantara, with a racing-esque steering wheel to match, it looks the part. Set into the new centre console you’ll find the usual oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge, and fuel gauge, but unlike many other E-Types, there is a modern touch screen. From here you can control the radio and other features that’ll mean driving this E-Type is very enjoyable in the modern world.

Below the new push-to-start button there are some lovely controls for other vital driving necessities such as the lights and window washers.
Below, and on either side, of the centre console you find some nice new red carpet has been fitted to the foot wells. Experiencing little use these still look great. This red carpeting carries on from the front and into the boot section.

Overall, the interior of this Jaguar E-Type is in remarkable condition. It sits today with a better finish than when it left the factory in 1968. Thanks to the modern touches and big boot space this will be an excellent grand tourer for you to take on many adventures throughout your ownership.

The Exterior

  • Complete respray
  • The underside is just as clean
  • Like-new wire wheels
  • De-seemed bonnet
  • LED headlights
Although the interior of an E-type is nice to look at, it’s the exterior design that has cemented this car into the hearts and minds of car lovers around the world. The long sweeping bonnet and exterior lines are instantly recognisable and with some 21st-century additions, it is ready for the next 50 years on the road.

Starting with the bodywork, this has been thoroughly gone over. Upon delivery to the workshop it was stripped down, had some panels replaced, and sent off to be dipped, then the process of re-spraying could start. Now finished in a beautiful metallic red it stands out from the crowd and will always turn a few heads.

You may be able to spot a few changes to the exterior of this E-Type that make it look the real deal. Most notably the old halogen style headlights have been replaced in favour of the more modern LED lights. This should mean that night driving is a lot safer as you’ll be able to see where you’re going. In between these lights, the series II grille has been swapped out for a V12 SIII grille instead.

Another large exterior job is the de-seemed bonnet. Now one uniform piece of automotive sculpture the famous clamshell bonnet looks amazing.
All of the exterior chrome trim was also seen to and now returns a better reflection than most mirrors can.

A smaller detail on the exterior that might be overlooked is the four brand new wider wire wheels. The original skinny rims have been replaced with wider tyres and new rubber. This should make the handling a little better when you wish to push on a little bit.

The exterior of this E-Type looks stunning from every angle, with some sympathetic modern touches it retains its characteristic looks but is now properly usable on modern roads.

The Mechanics

  • 5-Speed manual gearbox
  • Racing derived clutch fitted
  • Fuel injection fitted
  • Brake upgrade carried out
  • Extensive suspension work
As you can probably gather by now, this E-Type has been treated to a no expense spared Restomod process. This will be further evidenced throughout this section as we explain all of the mechanical work that has been carried out on this beast.

Lifting the clamshell bonnet reveals the legendary 4.2 litre inline six. Throughout this restoration, a lot of work has been carried out to make sure that this car will always run perfectly.

Firstly, the original carburettor system has been replaced with a modern, and far more reliable, fuel injection system. The Mangoletsi system provides a reliable source of fuel whilst presented in a classic looking package.

To help the exhaust gases escape quicker, thus giving you more power, a new 6-branch big bore exhaust has been fitted. This also has the benefit of producing a beautiful soundtrack.

To transmit this newfound power to the road it is sent through a heavy-duty, racing-derived, clutch, to the new 5-speed manual gearbox, through the painted rear diff, and to the rear wheels. This exchange of power is effortless and will push you down the road a lot quicker than a standard E-Type.

With all this extra power you’re going to need some extra stop. Thankfully the brake system has been overhauled. Receiving parts from Fosseway Brakes they now perform better than the original system.

Right, we now have extra go, and extra stop, now we need some extra stability. Luckily for you, Super Gaz suspension has been fitted on all four corners with new poly bushes throughout. There have also been some upgrades to the anti-roll bars front and rear.

On the day of the photo shoot, it was required to turn around in its garage space. Starting up and purring away nicely it turned around with ease. It did need to be started a few times and it did this with a press of the button.

As you can probably tell, the mechanical elements of this car are excellent and should provide you with many happy miles of motoring in the future.

Summary

There is almost nothing more iconic than the E-Type, but as they age, they are getting harder to maintain and use frequently. That is where a car like this comes into its own.

It is now fitted with modern features that should improve its usability, safety, and character, whilst still retaining its beautiful looks and true identity.

As we head into the future this will probably become the norm, so why not pick up this beautifully built E-Type and be ahead of the curve?

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
