  • Engine rebuild by Alfa specialists ‘Peter Smart Classic Alfas’, developing around 120bhp with the Alfaholics exhaust system
  • Subject to copious recent work

The Appeal

Oh if only they still made cars like the Alfa Romeo Giulia Super…
A compact, lightweight, rear-wheel drive family saloon with looks to die for, a fizzy little twin-cam under the bonnet and a five-speed manual gearbox - it beats any SUV in our book.
But wait, there’s more. This 1969 example is the rare 1600 S - of which reportedly just over 2,000 were ever made. Better still, this one’s been restored and tastefully modified to enhance its appearance, performance and usability further.
We’re informed that the Alfa was restored in the Netherlands around fourteen years ago and since arriving in the UK in 2016, it has undergone a series of further improvements which bring it up to the standard we see today. Its engine has been rebuilt by ‘Peter Smart Classic Alfas’ and now produces a very respectable 120 bhp, accompanied by a vocal rasp from an Alfaholics exhaust.
We’re informed that it drives very well indeed and is ready to be enjoyed by its next lucky owner.

  • Exempt from road tax and MOT testing - (last advisory-free MOT expired 9th March 2024)
  • Two former registered keepers since import
  • UK registered since 1st November 2016
  • The vendor bought the car in May 2021
  • We’re informed that it has been mainly stored in a garage
  • The vendor understands that the car was restored in the Netherlands in 2010
  • ’S’ models were manufactured between 1968 and 1970, of which there were reportedly just over 2,000 made
  • ‘Certificato di Origine’ from Alfa Romeo Classiche
  • Original sales brochure
  • 57,183 kilometres
  • The vendor, an avid Alfa fan, always wanted the rare 1600 Super, but having now acquired a Giulia Sprint GT racer, it’s reluctantly offered for sale

The Condition

  • Alfaholics 15” GTA-style wheels with Yokohama AD08RS 195/55 tyres (standard spare)
  • Nardi steering wheel
  • New Classic Alfa carpet set
  • New laminated windscreen with black wiper arms
  • Retro-style ‘Hermosa’ radio supplied (not connected)
  • Original OE spare parts include front seats, bumpers
  • Period GTA-inspired livery with a blue flash on the nearside front corner
  • GTA-style alloy wheels
  • Debumpered
  • Leather seats sourced from a Brera
The 105 Series Giulia is without doubt one of the prettiest four-door saloons of its era - or any era for that matter. This one looks particularly good in its glossy red paintwork and we love the racing roundels on the doors, blue flash on the nearside front corner and Quadrifoglio Verde motifs on the front wings. The bodywork is commendably straight, the doors fit well and the underside presents impeccably without a hint of visible corrosion.
On the inside, the seats have been replaced with those from a Brera - a popular conversion as they are especially comfortable while retaining a period look and sporting an embroidered Alfa Romeo logo on the backrests. There’s a sporting wood-rimmed Nardi wheel and a retro-inspired modern ‘Hermosa’ radio. There is a little wear to the upholstery including the backrests, parcel shelf and a small crack in the dashboard veneer, but otherwise, all presents very well indeed.

The Mechanics

  • 1,568 cc four-cylinder Nord twin-cam
  • Five-speed manual gearbox
  • Engine rebuild by Alfa specialists ‘Peter Smart Classic Alfas’, developing around 120bhp with the Alfaholics exhaust system
  • Koni Sport ‘yellow’ dampers with Alfaholics lowered springs
  • Bigger sports brakes (discs all round)
  • Various spare engine ancillaries included in the sale
Mechanically, this Giulia has been enhanced without losing the character of the original. It retains its famously rev-happy carburetted Nord twin-cam which has been rebuilt and tuned to around 120 bhp. The Weber carbs are now fed by separate trumpets and the engine breathes through a vocal Alfaholics exhaust system. The suspension is upgraded with Koni Sport ‘yellow’ dampers with Alfaholics lowered springs.
The vendor comments that the Alfa is very satisfying to drive and is free from apparent issues.
