THE APPEAL

The late sixties was time for Ford to be bold and brazen. All car manufacturers in America were trying to produce the most powerful muscle car, but Ford always seemed to the manufacturer others aspired to and tried to emulate. The car that remains the most easily identifiable and iconic is this Mustang Fastback with the glorious V8 351 engine. The timeless design looks as relevant today as it did new when the car was produced, and Neil Armstrong was walking on the moon.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • Current owner imported the Mustang 7 years ago
  • Stripped and rebuilt engine and mechanicals by John Hickey in County Kerry
  • Certificate from Marti Autoworks showing all matching numbers
  • Certificate for Premiere Auto Appraisals done in 2015 USA

Vehicles being imported from the USA rarely have service history included, but it was obvious the car had a carefree life being well looked after in Berwyn Illinois, just outside of Chicago. The car comes with the peace of mind of a professional appraisal and confirmation that all the important points such as matching numbers are correct for a vehicle of this age.

The current owner has owned the car for seven years and in that time has had a lot of work carried out to both the engine, mechanicals and a full professional body wrap to a very high standard. There are old images of the car in a pearl blue colour which shows how fresh the bodywork and paintwork is under the wrap.

THE INTERIOR

  • Black kiwi style bucket seats
  • Headliner is in great condition, very clean and tight
  • Working Vox audio radio cassette
  • As new carpets
  • Three spoke wood and stainless-steel steering wheel
  • Great patina on the chrome work and wood effect
  • Factory tinted windows

There is a real sense of history sitting on the soft vinyl seats looking at the recessed dials. There are signs of slight wear to the door cards and a few bits of trim might need adjusting but it has aged perfectly. The light filtering in via the louvre rear window gives a magical glow, especially in the back seating area, which has as much legroom as a modern Ford. The air conditioning was removed in America prior to being imported to the UK, the switches and hoses are in place it just needs a new unit fitting if needed.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Vented louvre rear window cover
  • Front chin spoiler
  • Professionally vinyl wrapped in red, black, and white
  • Smooth, straight piping seamlessly done to a high quality
  • Decals and colour scheme emulates the Mustang Clubs Racing Team
  • Boss 351 decals for show
  • Decorative side air vents for that go faster look
  • Bonnet pins (NASCAR style)
  • Magnum 500 wheels in excellent condition with 4 Goodrich radial tyres

The current owner liked the idea of making the Mustang stand out even more than it did in blue and commissioned a professional vinyl wrapper from England to do the job. The whole process to a month as a lot of energy was focussed on getting the details just right. The colour scheme emulates the livery from the Mustang Clubs Racing Team (specifically the colours of racing driver Parnelli Jones who competed in many series, ranging from IndyCar and NASCAR to offroad racing) This was a part of The National Council of Mustang Clubs, who were an official Ford sponsored organisation. Clubs were locally sponsored by dealerships across America.

Historically accurate lettering has been added and the 69 put on the doors (which represent the year the car was made) The resulting wrap is very hard to tell from a full paint respray, and underneath it’s still blue if you wanted to remove it! Earlier images pre the vinyl wrap show the car is very clean and tidy so nothing untoward has been covered up. From a close inspection there were no signs of welding to the underside and the pinstripes of the bodywork line up beautifully.

THE MECHANICALS

  • FMX Select Shift Cruise-O-Matic Transmission
  • Factory Power Steering
  • New seals installed
  • All the electrics have been checked and renewed where necessary
  • New hoses fitted
  • Transmission serviced, checked, and rebuilt
  • New plugs and leads
  • Electronic ignition fitted by current owner
  • Rebuilt handbrake
  • Disc brakes all round rear ones upgraded by owner
  • Brakes meticulously refurbished and rebuilt
  • Twin exhaust in good condition gives a great note
  • Block out, reskimmed
  • Power steering rebuilt
  • 1000 miles on new engine rebuild

In the seven years of ownership the vendor has lavished attention on this Mustang Fastback. Any work that needed doing was attended to by a host of professionals in the classic American car business. Most of the mechanicals are stock but the brakes have been improved enormously by the addition of discs all round. There are a few nice touches such as the Cobra air filter and electronic ignition. The car runs superbly and everything works as it should with the added bonus that it sounds fantastic!

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
