The Background

Launched to the world in 1959 the Mini has gone on to garner huge praise among the car community, it has lived on into the 21st century with a modern interpretation of the cult icon for a new audience.

When it entered production in 1959 it was revolutionary. The compact two-door city car design was then complemented by the forward-thinking engine layout, a transverse engine and front-wheel drive layout would leave 80% of the floor plan for the passengers. This layout would go on to influence the design of almost all compact cars.

The Mini has since gone on to be voted the second most influential car of the 20th century, selling in its millions the classic mini has since been bought into the modern age with the BMW variant which has also started to garner a cult classic status too.

With such a huge following, for both new and old, the mini community is one of the most welcoming in the car scene. With so many like-minded people you will never be short of advice or help should you need some.

The History

With only one owner from new, this Minis life is well documented. Bought back in 1969 this mini would go on to live a long and happy life with its elderly owner. The main task of this car was to ferry the owner to and from Watford Football Club on a Saturday and that was all it was ever really used for.

As you can tell from the extensive paperwork folder it has been serviced with the same garages within the same area of Hemel Hempstead. It would stay with its first and only owner until they reached an age when they could not drive the car anymore.

The mini was then offered to the current owner, neighbours of the elderly owner, who snapped it up knowing it was a genuine low owner, low mileage car. Having sat quietly in a barn for the past 5 years or so the current owner has now decided to move it on to the next owner to enjoy the fun of owning a mk.2 Morris Mini 1000.

The Paperwork

There is an extensive folder of paperwork with this Mini, adding to its provenance. From the original purchase receipt, from Shaw & Kilburn Ltd. Of Watford, dated 1971, to the modern V5c there are many documents showing works that have been done to the Mini over its life.

One great sign that this car has been looked after properly is the abundance of old road tax discs from 1984 to 2014 there are quite a few discs that look great as part of the paperwork bundle.

Some of the receipts that are part of the bundle are invoices for works that have been done with some of them dating back to the early ’90s, once again these are great little insights into how cared for this car has been over its life.

The new owner will be able to sift through this paperwork at their pleasure, within minutes they will start to gain an appreciation for this particular Mini.

The Interior

With this car being only used for small journeys at the weekend you can imagine that the interior is in good condition. There aren’t many bells and whistles inside an original Mini with only three dials, sliding windows, and an interior heater it is the true essence of motoring simplicity.

The red interior matches the red exterior paint well, the main parts like the seats are in good condition. The drivers and front passenger seats do show signs of use with there being a small tear on the passenger seat and a few more on the driver’s seat.

With a little bit of elbow grease and interior cleaner, the seats will come back to life and be as vibrant as the rear seats. The rears seats however are in perfect condition with no rips or tears present.

The headliner is in good condition too, with no major sagging issues that many older cars suffer with. There are a few small stains around the base, but you could probably get the worst of these stains out with some interior cleaner too.

If we look at the rest of the interior aspects like the door cards, steering wheel, and wooden gear knob are all in great condition. A few small areas you may want to look at re-doing are mainly the carpets which are a little bit discoloured, but with the huge mini communities and online parts shop it should be an easy task to source new carpets.

Another area of the interior that will need looking at is the odometer set into the binnacle, it appears to have been stuck at 20,000 miles for a bit of time, the only owner of the car never saw this as a big issue.

Overall, the interior condition of this little cult classic Mini is in good and original condition, with a little bit of work it will come straight back to its former glory. With the Mini famously being easy to work on anyone with a spare weekend and a basic toolkit should be able to get this interior back to its former glory.

The Exterior

No matter your age or automotive background you can’t help but smile when you look at a classic Mini and this example is no different. Finished in a wonderful red with a contrasting black roof it stands out from the modern crowd.

The paintwork is in great condition, with this car only completing small journeys to and from Watford FC at the weekend there aren’t signs of stone chips a car of higher mileage may have.

One excellent feature of this Mini is that the reg number is etched/stamped into many of the exterior parts, this means we can say windows, front bumper, rear lights, and all four hubcaps are more than likely the original parts that it left the factory with. A wonderful little sign that indicates how well this car has been looked after throughout its life.

A few small parts on the exterior that need a little bit of work are that the original bumpers could do with a little bit of love and there is also a small piece of chrome flashing missing from the driver’s side. But once again with the size of the mini community and online parts shops, these should not be hard to source and replace should you want to.

Overall, the exterior of this Morris Mini is in good condition, with a bit of time spent on the exterior this Mini will be bought back to like-new condition. With all of the body panels straight with no dents and no obvious paint bubbles around the exterior there shouldn’t be any major surprises should the new owner wish to work on the exterior.

The Mechanics

Fitted with the legendary BMC A series engine this little Mini’s mechanical elements are in great condition. With this car sitting quietly in storage for the last few years the current owner took her out for the photoshoot, and she fired straight up and had even driven to the carwash the day before with no issues to report of.

With the small amounts of mileage covered regularly, this car has had a few jobs in its past, but nothing major like a new engine or any issues with the gearbox. Just a few works to keep her on the road in fine fettle. If you take a little look into the engine bay you can see that this car hasn’t been mucked about with throughout its life, a lovely and honest mechanical example of an English icon it’ll go anywhere you want to take it.

The lack of complicated electronic modules makes this Mini a great little car to live with and work on, this is one of those cars that will more than likely outlive us all due to its simple engineering. Whether you want to add this to your collection of Minis or want to relive a memory this solid example is the best candidate for this.

This Mini with its humble use as a weekend car to ferry the first owner to the Watford FC grounds and a big bundle of paperwork you can see that this car is an honest example of an icon.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
