The Appeal

The Triumph TR6 is a well-loved and a popular classic to own. They are becoming harder to find in a favourable and affordable condition so many people turn to cars that have lived in sunnier and drier climates.

This car spent most of its life in the USA until 1993 when it was brought into the UK and promptly converted to having the steering put on the proper side. At the same time, it was restored and it still looks good today. Plenty of time has been spent on the mechanicals too. The engine and gearbox have both received some attention. This is a well-appointed and well-maintained car which deserves a serious look.

The History and Paperwork

  • Professional Conversion and Restoration 1993/4
  • Extensive File of Invoices
  • Historic MOT Certificates on File
  • Waxoyl Certificate
  • Current MOT to March 23
  • Current V5
Professionally converted and restored once imported. Supplied in the restored condition by TR Bitz of Cheshire to the current owner in 2013. The new owner has been diligent in ensuring the car is well maintained and there are plenty of invoices to show it returned to TR Bitz many times for maintenance and restorative mechanical work.

There has been at least £6000 spent in recent years on a bottom-end engine build, which included a balanced crank, clutch and flywheel and a reconditioned gearbox with overdrive.

The Interior

  • Clean Interior
  • Unmarked black vinyl seats
  • Excellent replacement burred dashboard
  • Original Door Cards
There is no doubt that the carpeting was replaced during the restoration as it is in very good condition without any discernible wear and tear. The seats are also in very good condition and are finished in glossy black vinyl. The dashboard is of course a replacement and fitted as part of the conversion to right-hand drive. It is finished in unmarked burred laminate and shows no cracks or flaking in the lacquer.

All the instruments are in the correct places and all work as they should according to the owner. A period Motorola adds a nice finishing touch. The odometer may have been replaced at some time, possibly at restoration as the mileage reads a mere 15,000 and is confirmed by the UK MOT certificates. Overall, the interior is in great condition and is commensurate with the low mileage since the import.

The Exterior

  • Finished in Triumph Royal Blue
  • Good Quality Paintwork
  • Minilite Style Alloys
  • Fully Functioning Hood with Tonneau
  • Cockpit Tonneau also with the car
  • Full Car Cover is also available

The Mechanics

  • Bottom-end engine rebuild
  • Lightened and balanced Crankshaft
  • Refurbished Twin Carburettors
  • Tubular Sports Exhaust Manifold
  • Reconditioned gearbox with overdrive
A TR6 is known for its lusty straight six engine, and this one seems in fine fettle. There are plenty of invoices showing the amount of work undertaken to the engine including the bottom-end rebuild and work on the crank. A pair of rebuilt carbs and sports exhaust manifold all help to extract a little more horsepower.

The car benefits from a reconditioned gearbox with overdrive. Brakes and suspension remain standard. The engine bay is particularly original and would appear to be sporting original paint on the inner wings.

Summary

The delightful Triumph TR6 represents everything great about open-top motoring and this one is sure to impress. Having been restored nearly 30 years ago, this car still looks fantastic in the shiny royal blue paint scheme. Any owner will take great comfort in knowing that it has been well maintained while in the current owner’s hands and the voluminous file that contains the invoices show the financial obligation in keeping it in good condition.

The interior is in lovely condition throughout and although some way off show condition, it has not been abused in the 28 years since restoration and is a very pleasant place to be. Our owner can pass on a few bits and pieces too.

The car is still wearing the American-style front indicators as the side lights are in the headlamps, but there’s a pair of sparkly UK indicator and side light lenses that come with the car as well as a chromed grill surround. Don’t forget that you get a full car cover too as well as a cockpit tonneau cover. There’s simply no reason why you shouldn’t consider this car, but be quick, I don’t think you’ll be the only one interested.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
