1970 Rover P5B Coupe

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Affordable Luxury Motoring
  • Stunning Colour Combination Blue/English white
  • Exquisite interior with matching trim

THE APPEAL

For many years the transportation of choice for royalty and those in government, the Rover P5B represents nothing less than a British institution. The coupé model retains the 4-door layout from saloon models but differs with the inclusion of a more rakish roofline.
This very smart example is in fine mechanical order, ready to grace the roads of Britain with its presence. It has also undergone a number of sensible upgrades, making this a superb vehicle that can be used all year round.
This stunning example needs to be seen to be appreciated

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • MoT until January 2023
  • Current receipts and maintenance records
  • V5 Documentation present and correct
  • Road tax and MoT exempt
  • Invoices totalling £5,000 for work in 2021

THE INTERIOR

  • Upgraded sound system with digital radio/CD player and Bluetooth
  • Cream leather upholstery in immaculate condition
  • Front and rear picnic tables
  • Dashboard instruments in superb condition
  • Extensive work has been carried out the leather interior
The interior looks stunning with new carpets throughout, the sight and smell of luxury welcomes you as you open the door! It could almost be mistaken for a Rolls Royce or Bentley. The seats have matching chrome trim and look as new; the leather door cards and contrasting wood  trim look stunning; the roof lining is also in great condition. And the courtesy lighting above all four doors is a very refined touch.
There are four extra gauges mounted below the instrument cluster. The vendor notes the only fault is that the clock doesn't work, and the rev counter bounces a little after 50 or 60 miles.
Below the dash is a full width shelf and a small pull out picnic table, which opens to reveal an original Rover tool kit.
In the boot, the linings are in good condition and there is an enclosed battery compartment and full size spare wheel.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Eye catching two tone colour scheme
  • Chrome brightwork in excellent condition
  • Wheels and tyres look great
  • Extensive work has been carried out on the paintwork and chrome
First impressions are that this is a head turner, with a colour combination that looks superb on the P5B. Overall, the paintwork looks lovely with no dents or dings present. There are some very light polishing marks noticeable on one panel, only visible from certain angles and light conditions.
The brightwork is in superb condition. There is some very minor pitting close up, but overall it's in excellent condition with a full new stainless steel rear bumper installed two months ago at a cost of £1,200.

THE MECHANICS

  • Very smooth 3.5-litre Rover V8
  • Starts on the button and runs beautifully
  • Engine bay very clean and tidy
The owner reports that the engine is mechanically superb and very clean with no coolant or oil leaks. It always starts first time and is fantastic to drive. The vendor has been meticulous in undertaking the maintenance and servicing of this car, such that it wants for nothing, having benefited from much work to its running gear.
The car has reportedly received a full front suspension overhaul, along with new exhaust sections, replacement ignition system parts and wiring. The clean and tidy engine bay is a credit to its owners.
Underneath there is the usual smattering of surface corrosion, but nothing obviously concerning. The rubber suspension bushes and boots appear fresh and supple.

THE SUMMARY

The P5B Coupé is a perennially popular British classic, with its rakish styling and solid build quality. And the car offered here looks particularly smart, with its blue colour scheme and upgraded seating.
This beautiful example has obviously been cherished, well maintained and treated to some user-friendly modern upgrades, and must be among the most usable P5Bs on the road today.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
