The Appeal
Produced for only two years between October 1969 and October 1971, the Citroën DS Super was the precursor to the 1972 DS Super 5 and represents a particularly sought-after iteration of Citroën’s revolutionary flagship. Equipped with the more powerful 2.0-litre engine, an upgraded dashboard, directional headlights and the rare 5-speed manual gearbox with power steering, these transitional models hold a special place in the marque’s history and are among the most sought-after in the DS lineage.
This 1970 example has undergone a thorough professional restoration that truly sets it apart. The body has been completely dismantled, all corroded areas have been properly cut, grafted and reshaped before treatment, primed and painted. The normally troublesome areas — lower door sills, boot floor, windscreen aperture and roof surrounds — have also been treated, and the chassis is declared completely corrosion-free. The interior has received the same level of attention with a full new trim, including seat foams, panels, carpet, headlining and boot floor. The entirety of the restoration is documented by over 350 photographs and accompanied by invoices totalling more than €12,600.
Adding to its appeal, the appearance of this DS in the French film of 2018 “Les Vieux Fourneaux”, with Pierre Richard, Eddie Mitchell and Roland Giraud, enhances its prestige. Since acquisition by the current owner in November 2017, the car has been maintained exclusively by DS specialists, stored in a private garage and used sparingly on monthly fine-weather outings. The hydraulic system has been redesigned and is leak-free, while mechanical work has included electronic ignition, new tyres, camshaft and carburation adjustments, and regular oil changes.
With matching serial numbers, a standard registration, and an MOT valid until October 2027, this lovely car ticks many boxes.DSCF7934.JPG472.48 KB
