The Appeal
To many enthusiasts, the short-lived Series 2 represents the sweet spot in the E-Type range. While the stunning looks of the original changed little, the engine capacity grew to 4.2 litres, cooling was improved and several other refinements were made, and crucially, it was the last iteration to feature the brilliant XK DOHC straight-six. This 1971 Fixed Head Coupé is a matching-numbers, factory right-hand drive example that was originally supplied new to the UK by Henlys of London.
Classically finished in British Racing Green over tan leather, this E-Type presents very well while wearing an honest, age-commensurate patina. The bodywork benefits from a bare metal respray and structural restoration carried out during the mid-1990s, giving it solid bones beneath its attractive exterior. A period Tudor-Webasto sunroof allows occupants to enjoy the open air, while the FHC variant's prettier lines set it apart from the 2+2. Inside, the tan leather upholstery and trim present handsomely, complemented by a wood-rimmed sports steering wheel.
Mechanically, the car benefits from recent work carried out in April 2024, and a wealth of older invoices documents decades of careful stewardship. For those seeking an E-Type to drive and enjoy with confidence, this one is well worthy of consideration.
