The Appeal
The Seven Series 4 was the final roll of the dice for a classic design. Updated styling and lightweight, corrosion-resistant fibreglass bodywork garnered the car plaudits from reviewers. Quite an achievement for a design that dated back three decades.
Just 664 Series 4 cars were built and this one must be amongst the most original and sparingly used. The current keeper inherited it from his brother-in-law earlier this year - he had driven the car since 1973 and owned it since 1977. With all that known history, the low mileage of 27,372 miles is confirmed as correct.
The car is factory standard with its 1,600cc Ford Crossflow engine and finished in British Racing Green. It is an older repaint showing minor signs of age - they arguably add character or could be easily updated.
Since inheriting the car, the seller has invested a lot of time and money in improving it. This includes new brake and clutch master cylinders, rear wheel cylinders and pipes, electronic ignition, radiator hoses and a fresh service. So it arrives with the buyer ready to enjoy. A great example of the final version of Colin Chapman’s original vision.
The vendor tells us:
It is a totally original, unmolested car, driven and looked after by predominately one person throughout its life. It does not take up much garage space, is straightforward and easy to work on when required, is not rust prone like steel cars, is attractive to everyone and not just enthusiasts. It is light, lively and fun to drive and brings a smile to your face and others wherever you are.
"I did not buy the car but inherited it from my brother in law 'because I was a car guy'. But at 80 years old I now prefer more comfort and easier access, and am looking for someone who will use it, look after it and enjoy it like he did."
