Built to the most stringent engineering standards and gracefully styled, the W108 has gone down in history as one of the all-time great luxury saloon cars.
Presented here in a gorgeous blue-over-tan scheme, this car has been comprehensively restored by Westgate Classics, enjoyed a bare metal respray in 2019 and been kept in a heated garage ever since. In fact, it’s covered just 100 miles since its restoration and is now ready for a new owner to enjoy.

The Interior
Retrimmed by ‘Sign It Upholstery’ in 2013
New carpets fitted in 2013
Rare RHD bench seat specification
Offering an urbane contrast to the light blue paintwork, the upholstery has been changed from the original blue to a tasteful light tan. As well as having all of the seats retrimmed, the door cards have also been sprayed to match the upholstery. As the vehicle has only covered a couple of hundred miles since the retrim was undertaken, the upholstery presents in superb condition.
At the same time as the reupholstering was carried out, new deep blue loop carpets were fitted to the cabin. Again, due to the car’s lack of use since, they appear in an excellent state. Looking up at the car’s cream vinyl headlining, it appears in very good condition. It wears some marks and blemishes due to age, but otherwise is tight and well-preserved with no signs we could see of damage or sagging. At the back the boot area has been finished with a grey rubber liner, which looks in as-new condition, and also contains a full-size spare wheel fitted with a new tyre and a period jack.
Going back into the cabin, the dashboard, switchgear and instrumentation presents very well. The clocks are in fine fettle and clearly legible, belying their age somewhat. Meanwhile the wood veneer fascia appears to have worn very well, with no evidence of cracking or peeling.
Similarly, the controls and switchgear wear a light patina but otherwise look very well. In fact, the only damage we could see was to the faceplate of the period Blaupunkt radio, which appears to have a crack and a small amount of plastic missing in the top right corner. Otherwise, the interior presents very well indeed for the age of the vehicle.
The Exterior
Bare metal respray in 2019
Light blue paintwork
Steel wheels with colour-coded wheel plates
Whitewall tyres
Having been subject to a respray in 2019 and having covered barely any miles since, as you’d expect the paintwork is generally in very good condition. There are one or two very minor blemishes, and what appears to be two tiny bubbles on the edge of the near-side rear door, but otherwise it looks to have been well applied and nicely finished.
As with all W108s, there is plenty of brightwork to offer a fine complement to the fresh paintwork. The vast majority of the brightwork and badging is in very good condition – the bumpers and front grille look to be in an especially fine state. The door handles and boot handle show some wear and pitting to the chrome, but otherwise all the trim in present, correct and in good order.
Wearing the classic colour-coded wheel plates with chrome embellishments, the car rides on steel wheels shod with whitewall tyres. The wheel plates have some light scuffs to the edges, while the tyres appear to have decent tread. However, it should be noted that the latest MOT advised that the off-side rear tyre may soon need replacing.
You can clearly see from the underside of the vehicle that a number of areas have been welded during the restoration process. Overall it appears to be straight, solid and presents well. The floors do not show any signs of notable corrosion that we could observe. There is the usual surface corrosion to some of the drivetrain elements present, but overall the underneath looks nice and solid.
The Mechanics
2,778cc inline-six engine
4-speed column shift transmission
With robust and well-engineered mechanical components, it’s little wonder that the W108 remains a popular choice amongst classic car enthusiasts.
That 2.8-litre inline-six offers plenty of power and an intoxicating engine note to accompany its legendary reliability. Mated to that column-shift transmission, it offers a superbly relaxing way to cruise around.
With the history this car has, buyers can have confidence that the car is in fine mechanical order, with the vendor reporting that the vehicle drives very well, with no mechanical issues they are aware of.
Summary
Elegant, sophisticated, eminently reliable and timeless – all characteristics that make the W108 a great choice as both a daily classic and as something special to wheel out on special occasions.
This example has been maintained regardless of expense, subjected to a comprehensive professional restoration, and meticulously cared for over the years. Combine that with the tasteful specification and fine finish, and you have a car that really would sit happily in any collection.

Ammontare dell'offerta

Da £0 a £9,999

Da £10,000 a £49,999

Da £50,000 a £99,999

£1,000.00
Superamento immediato dell'offerta
