The Appeal

Originally launched in 2.0-litre form in 1969, the 911E occupied the middle ground in Porsche's 911 range, between the entry-level 'T' and range-topping 'S'. The advent of the 'C-Series' brought in the new 2.2-litre flat-six and in turn, performance increased from 140 brake horsepower to 155, retaining softer cams than the 991S in order to improve every-day usability.

This 911E 2.2 has undergone a recent restoration to a high standard and with a period non-original engine that has further upped its power to 181 bhp - (bringing it in-line with the 911S). Resplendent in a striking Bahia Red, a change from its original blue, it features an expertly restored black interior with matching carpets.

The vendor points out that this is not just a show vehicle, it's a true driver's car. The power has been increased from 155 to 181 bhp, making it a joy to drive. The Porsche comes with a comprehensive history portfolio, including receipts, a dyno sheet, and British MOT documentation (as it retains its UK registration).

For air-cooled Porsche enthusiasts, this hot-rodded 911E is surely a must-have: A classic to be driven hard and enjoyed as its makers originally intended.

The History and Paperwork

  • Left-hand drive example US registered in 1971
  • Imported to the UK in 2006
  • Non-matching numbers - period-correct (upgraded) engine fitted
  • Repainted from its original blue to Bahia Red
  • Participated in events and rallies before being imported to the UK
  • Comes with receipts, dyno sheet, MoT documentation
  • Historic tax status and MOT exempt - voluntarily tested in recent years (now expired)
  • Currently resides in Mallorca, Spain

The Condition

  • Restored to a high standard
  • Refinished in Bahia Red
  • Black interior and matching black carpets
  • The nearside door handle (on the inside) needs replacement
  • Small blemish in the windscreen
  • Period-correct '2.2' sticker in the rear window

This 911 presents very well following its restoration and will certainly hold its own at shows without being too pristine to enjoy. The bodywork is straight and solid-looking with good panel alignment and door shuts. Besides some minor surface corrosion forming on the rear bumper, there's no notable deterioration to report.

The black interior is similarly smart and highly original overall. There's no heavy wear evident to the upholstery, carpets and headlining, and the vendor does not report any issues with the cabin electrics. The only issue is that the driver's side interior door handle is broken and so will require replacement.

The Mechanics

  • Well-sorted driver's car with some sympathetic upgrades
  • Power increased from 155 to 181 bhp - 911S specification
  • Non-matching numbers, period-correct 2.2-litre engine fitted
  • Five-speed manual gearbox
  • Only 33,000 miles on the clock
  • Two keys included

This 911E is something of a sleeper, as beneath its rear hatch lies a flat-six with the performance of its range-topping sibling, the 911S. A dyno sheet accompanies the car, proving the horsepower gain and the vendor informs us that it drives very well indeed, with no apparent faults to report.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
