1973 Triumph TR6

Highlights

 • Mostly original example
 • Superb condition
 • Low mileage
 • Excellent history

The Appeal

Produced between 1969 and 1976, the TR6 would become Triumph’s best-selling vehicle from the TR series, until it was later succeeded by the TR7. Fitted with a fruity straight-six engine, these roadsters are capable of producing around 150bhp, and delivering a sub 9 second 0-60 time. With similar styling to the TR5, save for more squared-off and muscular front and back ends, the TR6 is a truly beautiful car.
Today, tidy examples of these classy roadsters are becoming few and far between. This particular TR6 presents buyers with the opportunity to own a superb, mostly original example.

The History and Paperwork

 • Just 63,532 miles covered
 • Well maintained and cared for
 • Garage stored
 • Includes invoices for parts & labour
 • Previous MOT certificates
 • V5C document present
 • Original handbook
This TR6 is a remarkably low mileage example, boasting just 63K on the clock. This mileage figure is believed to be correct and is supported by previous MOT certificates such as the 1988 MOT, which notes just 57,268 miles.
With just 5 former keepers recorded on the V5, the car has enjoyed the last 33 years under the ownership of the current registered keeper. Throughout their ownership, the car has been treasured, clearly reflecting years of care. Now it awaits its next home where it will no doubt continue to be someone’s pride and joy.
In terms of paperwork, the vehicle comes with a fantastic amount of invoices for parts and labour over the years, along with a comprehensive sheet containing a breakdown of new parts and maintenance. Also included are previous MOT certificates which help verify the low mileage, the original Triumph handbook and the V5C document, ready for the new owner.

The Interior

 • Superb condition
 • New carpets
 • Moto-Lita steering wheel
 • Wood veneer dash panels
In keeping with the exterior of the vehicle, the cabin of this Triumph is in spectacular condition, with very few signs of wear or age to be found throughout. Hardly noticeable, the driver’s seat shows a minor amount of wear towards the bolster but remains exceptionally comfortable. The passenger seat, on the other hand, appears to have only been used a mere handful of times and shows no noticeable wear.
The Moto-Lita steering wheel, gear knob and dashboard are all in superb condition and have clearly been well preserved over the years. The wood veneer dash panels pair well with the wooden steering wheel and gear knob to contrast beautifully against the sleek black interior.
All interior controls present themselves with minimal wear at the contact points and are believed to be in full working order. As the car was also treated to new carpets and rubber mats, you’ll find the cabin to be a very clean and tidy space.
Overall, you would be incredibly hard-pressed to find fault with the interior condition of this classy roadster.

The Exterior

 • Old English White paintwork
 • Original finish
 • Excellent condition
The Triumph TR6 is one of those classics that simply never looks outdated, and has a fantastic road presence even to this day. The Old English white paintwork does a fantastic job at highlighting the car’s muscular body lines and suits the roadster perfectly.
The paintwork is in superb condition, with only very minor signs of age noticeable around the car. As the car is believed to be in original condition, it is truly remarkable to find original paintwork that has been preserved this well.

All chrome trim pieces, lights, and badging are in a similar condition, helping to set this TR6 far above other examples available today. The car also benefits from a mohair soft top, which not only folds down without fault but is in superb condition with no rips or tears. Although this piece isn’t original, it is a far more versatile and durable option when compared to the standard roof, and is a modification many owners choose to make.
The car currently sits on a set of Cobra TC Superslot wheels, which in keeping with the rest of the vehicle, are also in excellent condition. The wheels are wrapped in a set of Goodyear GT80 tyres, with plenty of tread for the new owner to enjoy. If you’d prefer the standard wheels for originality, worry not as these will be included with the sale!
Overall, this TR6 is an absolutely beautiful example and has no doubt been incredibly well cared for over the years.

The Mechanics

 • Starts right away
 • Drives and performs without fault
 • 2498cc straight-six
 • Modified cylinder head & camshaft
 • Stainless steel exhaust & manifold
 • Kenlowe electrical fan unit & switch
 • Intermotor sports ignition coil
Buyers will be pleased to know that this mighty TR6 fires up straight away, and happily idles awaiting your next command. The car pulls well through the gears with fully operational overdrive, handles well, and stops as desired. As is tradition with these roadsters, the car is also fitted with a stainless steel exhaust, allowing that glorious straight-six to sing.
As the superb state of the engine bay will likely suggest, this vehicle has been well cared for over the years and has been maintained as required. As the vehicle has only covered a mere 63 thousand miles from new, buyers can likely expect hassle-free motoring for many years to come.
Within the vehicle’s paperwork, you’ll find a carefully collated list of all the work carried out over the years. This very document details some tasty upgrades and maintenance, including Spax suspension, a stainless manifold & exhaust system, a brake overhaul, a new distributor cap, Lucas high-performance plug leads, and much more.
With no mechanical or electrical issues to report, this TR6 is without a doubt the perfect roadster for the upcoming Summer.

Summary

If you’re in the market for a British classic that combines iconic ‘70s styling with legendary straight-six performance, a Triumph TR6 really should be on your radar. This particular low mileage example is the full package, showcasing a superb exterior, tidy interior and faultless mechanical operation.
What better way to enjoy the sunshine than with top-down motoring, and a side of straight-six goodness?

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
