The Appeal

The Series III is, for many enthusiasts, the most sought-after example of the E-Type breed, with its brawny V12 engine and imposing yet elegant styling. And within this eminently desirable oeuvre, we have here an example that’s more desirable than most. This matching-numbers UK car was recently treated to an engine-out bare-metal body restoration and repaint, as well as a new magnolia leather interior, new mohair soft-top, and much more besides – including a superb air-conditioning system which blows ice cold. The recent works came in at a cost of c.£30,000, and it shows – this is a beautifully presented machine in fine mechanical fettle. A very well sorted and honest E-Type with a show-ready finish, that’s ready to enjoy and will undoubtedly provide countless hours and miles of pleasure for many years to come.

The History and Paperwork

  • V5
  • Heritage certificate
  • Sheaf of old MOTs
  • Substantial history file inc. lots of receipts and invoices
  • Photographic documentation of restoration

The Condition

  • Bare-metal body resto
  • New leather trim
  • Air-conditioning

With its fresh restoration work carried out to a very high standard, this Jaguar presents very well indeed both inside and out. The new British Racing Green paint has a deep and impressive lustre, and is complemented by gleaming chrome trim. All of the light lenses and window glass are good, and the pretty steel wheels wear quality Pirelli tyres with plenty of tread.

The mohair soft-top is new, its tasteful green hue matching the aesthetic well, and is simple to raise, affix and lower.
The cabin is beautifully trimmed with soft magnolia leather. The carpets have been renewed with new insulation beneath, and the seats tilt forward to allow access to the rear storage area, which is also neatly finished in green. There’s a new Moto-Lita steering wheel, which looks great against the tidy wooden dash trim. And for added practicality and usability, the car has been fitted with a new air-conditioning system (the switches you can see by the gear shifter, and the round vents ahead of it on the dash) which blows ice cold.

The Mechanics

  • Recent engine tune
  • Gearbox rebuilt
  • Alarm and central locking

The running gear of the Series III is supremely impressive, the V12 being sonorous and muscular and always eager to waft you along on a tide of torque. And in this car it’s running beautifully, the engine having been tuned as part of the restoration before being carefully detailed. The gearbox has been rebuilt, and the mechanical side of things has been fully gone over in the course of the resto, including new brake calipers, discs and pads and a new handbrake. The wiring is also new, and an alarm has been fitted along with central locking. With automatic transmission and power steering, this is an effortless machine to enjoy.

Summary

The finish of this E-Type is impeccable inside and out, such is the quality of the restoration work. But don’t go thinking this is a garage queen or show pony – this fabulous Jaguar has been built to be used and enjoyed: in addition to the extensive efforts to perfect the aesthetics, the running gear has been carefully addressed to ensure tip-top running, and the addition of the new air-conditioning system means that you’ll be comfy all year round, top-up or top-down. A truly beautiful example that’s begging to be driven.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
