The Appeal

Regarded by many as Porsche's first major revision of the legendary 911, 1974 saw a styling change and the replacement of the 2.4-litre engine with a 2.7-litre unit on 'standard' cars. This example, however, is anything but a 'standard' car... Following Porsche's success with the 2.7 RS models, the decision was taken to manufacture another car, using the same engine as found in the RS models, for road use. And thus, the 911 Carrera 2.7 MFI was born.

With only 2 owners from new, here we have one of only 1,632 Carrera 2.7 Coupés to feature the eminently desirable 2.7-litre with Bosch mechanical fuel injection (MFI).

Delivered new to its first owner in Portugal, the car was originally specced in 'widebody' form and had the factory fitted options of a limited slip differential, electric sunroof, Koni sport shock absorbers, tinted windows and the famous rear 'whale tail' spoiler.

Presented in lovely original condition, this is one not to be missed.

The Interior

  • Black leather
  • Superb condition throughout
  • Electric sunroof
  • Tinted windows

Typical of 911s from this period, Porsche equipped this car with everything you needed and very little else, resulting in an elegant and timeless layout. The driver is presented with the iconic 5-dial instrument binnacle clearly keeping the driver abreast of all things important when at the wheel. You'll note that in this instance the binnacle features a 300 KPH speedometer, which was unique to this particular model.

The black leather seats appear in excellent order, with little to no creasing evident on the bolsters from use. Besides the aforementioned instrument binnacle, the spartan dashboard retains its original Blaupunkt radio and looks to be in very good order. The carpeting is clean and free from excessive wear and the same goes for the controls such as the steering wheel and gear lever. The perforated vinyl headlining is a real period throwback and is clean and well supported

Everything is reported to work correctly and the electric windows and sunroof all function quietly and efficiently. It is also supplied with its original tools, jack and a spare wheel.

The Exterior

  • Black paintwork
  • 'Widebody' from new
  • 'Whale tail'
  • Choice of BBS or Fuchs Alloys
We understand that the black paintwork is original and in fantastic condition with only some small blemishes here and there as you'd expect. The colour really highlights the beautiful lines, further enhanced in this instance by its 'widebody' specification, a deep front spoiler and period correct 'whale tail'. The vendor does advise that the car could do with a good polish to really show off the condition of that original paint, but it remains very usable and presentable as is.

The car was originally supplied on BBS wheels and the vendor is willing to supply it on these or the Fuchs alloys upon which it currently sits. Both sets are apparently in good condition and are shod with tyres which have ample tread remaining.

The bodywork is really straight and there’s good news underneath the car too, with everything appearing to be in good order and free from corrosion or damage.

The Mechanics

  • 2.7 Carrera RS (911-83 type) MFI engine
  • 5-speed manual gearbox
  • Impeccably maintained
  • Full service history
  • Immaculate engine bay
Having been carefully maintained and well attended to throughout its life, we are informed that this Porsche remains in very good order mechanically. A turn of the key and the legendary air-cooled engine springs to life immediately and then settles down to a gentle idle.

In order to ensure the car's reliability, it is equipped with an electronic ignition module, ensuring perfect starting and running every time.

The owner reports that it goes, stops, steers and sounds exactly as it would have done back in the day, with a "guttural" exhaust note and addictive handling.

The Summary

This is a very original matching numbers Porsche 911 Carrera, specced from new as a coveted 'widebody' car. When one considers the fact that a Porsche 911 2.7 RS now sells for upwards of half a million dollars, these relatively under-the-radar 2.7 MFI engined machines are proving to be excellent value for money and a very sound financial investment With just two owners from new, superbly maintained and in fantastic all-round original condition, this is a very special example of one of the best classic sports cars ever made.

It certainly isn't one to miss out on...

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
€0 to €9,999 €100.00
€10,000 to €49,999 €250.00
€50,000 to €99,999 €500.00
€100,000 + €1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
