The Appeal

Designed by Rolls-Royce stalwart J.P. Blatchley, the Silver Shadow was Crewe’s first monocoque design and it was sold in greater numbers than any previous model. The car was well-received in period and to this day, is regarded as one of the greatest Rolls-Royce motorcars of all time.
We’re delighted to offer this immaculate late example, UK-delivered in right-hand drive on 1st August 1980, it’s had just six registered keepers and benefits from a lifetime of judicious maintenance. Various invoices demonstrate that vast sums of money have been spent on maintenance including a programme of comprehensive recommissioning with a Swiss specialist in 2012 amounting to Sfr.15,570. The car is also accompanied by copies of the factory build record, providing a detailed account of its specifications and order information.
For those seeking the very best Silver Shadow you can lay your hands on, this Series II is eminently worthy of your consideration.

The History and Paperwork

  • UK-delivered in right-hand drive on 1st August 1980
  • Six registered keepers
  • MOT valid until 26th February 2025 - although exempt
  • Offered by a leading Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialist
  • Copies of the factory build records present
  • Original supplying paperwork including the warranty card and Owner’s Handbook
  • Numerous invoices attest to copious expenditure while an abundance of service stamps demonstrate judicious maintenance

Early in the car's life, there were two speedometer / odometer changes, the first in February 1983 at 7,578 miles and the second in October 1983 after a further 2,090 miles. Adding these to the current recorded mileage brings the total mileage to 50,906 miles. The speedometer changes are recorded in the service record book, copies of which are present in the history file.

The Condition

  • Chestnut paintwork over tan leather
  • The vendor assures us that the paintwork is unmarked and in fantastic condition
  • Arrow-straight bodywork with even door gaps
  • The chrome trim gleams
  • Shod with period-correct Avon Turbosteel tyres
  • Beautifully presented underside with no sign of corrosion
  • Immaculate leather upholstery and marquetry
  • Original Blaupunkt stereo and Pioneer cassette deck still in situ
  • There’s no notable wear to the controls or switchgear
  • We understand all the cabin electrics to be in good working order
Even the briefest of inspections clearly show this to be a remarkably smart example. The Chestnut paintwork and chrome trim present impeccably, with no apparent issues. We understand that the car has undergone professional polishing and paint correction in the past, ensuring it remains eminently presentable. The bodywork is impeccably straight and the doors align nicely, with not a hint of accident damage or corrosion in sight.
The interior is best described as glorious, with beautiful tan upholstery, immaculate woodwork and no notable wear to report. Commensurate with its low mileage and how well it has been kept, this doesn’t feel like a 44-year-old car from behind the wheel.

The Mechanics

  • 6.75-litre V8 engine
  • Four-speed automatic gearbox
  • Highly presented engine compartment
Having undergone a great deal of work over the years, we understand this Rolls-Royce to be in rude health. The vendor, a respected Rolls-Royce specialist, has ensured this car is mechanically prepared to an exemplary standard in readiness for its next custodian. While exempt from MOT testing due to its age, the car has recently passed an MOT with flying colours, offering assurance that it’s in very good order.
These Silver Shadows are very relaxing to drive, making effortless progress down the road thanks to Rolls-Royce’s torquey 6.75-litre V8 and a smooth automatic gearbox.
