The Attractions
At the time of its arrival in showrooms in 1979, the Talbot/Sunbeam Lotus had come a long way. Designed to excel in rallying, they were equipped with a 155 hp Type 907 four-cylinder engine and a five-speed gearbox. It is a secret known to most experienced small sports car drivers - the 205 and Golf may be the best known cars, but the Lotus can beat them all.
This particular Talbot Lotus 2200 has a fascinating history, having won the 1981 Giro d'ITALIA class with driver Gatti. This particular example has been kept in good condition, started up and handled regularly to preserve its condition. It is not only the history that makes this car special, but also its mechanical features. It has a self-locking differential that was recently overhauled and calibrated and a close-ratio axle. The handmade steel exhaust made by Giordano, which was replaced in July, adds to the car's appeal.
