The Appeal

The MGB is the quintessential British classic sports car, and this example could be the best on the market right now. For the past 40 years it has been looked after extremely well, still retaining a lot of its original features it is a perfect collector’s car.

It was recently acquired and driven 600 miles to its new home. Never once skipping a beat the car is in great condition inside, outside, and under the bonnet.
Don’t miss out on this example, where else would you find an amazing example such as this one?

The History and Paperwork

  • Built on the 15th of October 1980 the car sits dormant for a couple of years
  • On the 1st of March 1982, the car is first registered and supplied by Country Garage, of Barnstaple, Cornwall
  • For the next 33 years, it would reside with the first owner
  • During this time, they made sure to keep the car's original
  • Today it is supplied with its original MG handbook, and even every tax disc it has worn (baring 1996, this one has gone missing, unfortunately)
  • You’ll also find all of the old MOT certificates, this will vindicate the mileage and prove that it is a low mileage example
  • In 2015 the car travels to Ilfracombe, Devon, with its second owner
  • They too look after the car accordingly
  • In 2018 the previous owner acquires the car on 19,800 miles
  • Still, in original, unrestored condition, that owner makes some slight useability modifications
  • Firstly, electronic ignition is fitted
  • Providing a more reliable spark it is a game changer over the traditional ignition system
  • They also fit new brake discs, pads, and even calipers
  • Finally, and more importantly, the cylinder head has had some work to run on unleaded
  • This makes the car nice and easy to use in the 21st century
  • Driving 600 miles back to base it performed as if it was new
  • As previously mentioned, the car comes with a every MOT, and old handbooks, there is also a heritage certificate present too
  • It is now your chance to write the next chapter of this car’s history
  • It would be difficult to find a better example

The Interior

  • Completely original interior
  • Finished with gloriously 80’s deck chair style cloth seats
  • The fabric is in remarkable condition when you consider the age of the car
  • There is little to no marking on the seats whatsoever
  • You will see a little bit of stretch to the material on the base, but this does not affect their usage at all
  • Also, remember, this material is 40 years old
  • Even the central armrest is in great condition
  • Both the door cards look in amazing condition
  • Still retaining the original speakers, they haven’t been cut to accommodate larger speakers
  • Thus, remaining in its original condition
  • In the footwells, you’ll find two MG stamped over mats
  • These sit atop the well-presented and preserved black carpet
  • The four-spoke MG steering wheel looks almost like new
  • Along with the gearstick
  • You’ll also see the gearstick has the toggle for the overdrive facility on the gearbox
  • Below this, the central tunnel is in lovely condition
  • The dials just behind the gearstick are easily visible and still display the correct information
  • Sitting above the Smiths clock is the original Radiomobile radio/cassette player
  • With the top down it sits underneath a well preserved tonneau cover
  • And with the roof up the internal condition is rather good for a 40-year-old car
  • In the boot, you’ll find the spare wheel and toolkit
  • Overall, the interior of this beautiful classic is presented very well indeed
  • In such original condition, this could easily sit within a motor museum

The Exterior

  • Much like the interior, the exterior is presented in highly original condition
  • All of the MGB LEs left the factory in this fetching gold colour
  • Still sporting the original MGB decals on the side this example looks stunning
  • They also noted one spot of over-polishing at the top of the nearside wing, which has resulted in a slight blemish
  • Fitted with black rubber bumpers these are both in very good condition
  • It appears that the large chin at the front has never seen any damage
  • The same also goes for the rear bumper
  • Sitting on a matching set of Michelin tyres the alloys are in great condition
  • The mix of black and silver makes for a rather lovely design
  • Unsurprisingly the flashes of chrome on the exterior are also presented very nicely indeed
  • When the top is neatly folded away this little classic has looks to die for
  • With the top, you then have a classic that you can use all year round
  • Wherever you wish to display this car it will always be admired

The Mechanics

  • With only 22,000 miles from new, you can imagine that the car is mechanically sound
  • You’d be correct in this thinking
  • Recently the car completed a large, 600 mile, trip without fault
  • The vendor remarked on how well it drove and behaved on this trip
  • The little 1.8l B-Series engine performs very well
  • Mated to a four-speed manual gearbox, it also has overdrive to help with cruising
  • This could be down to the level of mechanical attention it has received over the years
  • The previous owner also did some work to the brakes to make sure they were up to their standard
  • With all new discs, pads, and calipers, this little classic should stop well
  • Underneath it is in lovely condition
  • It is reported to have no rot or corrosion of any kind
  • There is also an electronic ignition system fitted
  • You should have no issue getting in this car and driving it on some excellent road trips throughout your ownership
  • Getting behind the wheel of an MGB is fun, liberating, and exhilarating
  • With the wind in your hair, this car will make a lot of sense

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
