The Appeal

Commissioned by the British Armed Forces as a replacement for the ageing Austin Champ, the Land Rover Lightweight was to be based aboard Commando Carriers and be carried by Westland Wessex helicopters. To suit this purpose, the Lightweight was designed to be hastily disassembled for transport and easily reassembled in the field.
This Series III example is one of the last Lightweights built, entering military service in February 1985 and serving until September 1993. It remains exceedingly original, retaining 24-volt electrics, the remnants of its radio equipment and a military Olive Drab paint scheme.
Ex-military Lightweights are ever-popular within the Land Rover community, especially those with the 2.25-litre petrol engine fitted. This looks to be a fantastic example and we’re sure it would be welcome at military shows besides fulfilling typical classic Land Rover duties.
