The Appeal
The XR3i was a great car, but as the hot hatch competition warmed up, it always needed more power. Between the handful of factory turbocharged cars built purely for racing and the officially sanctioned RS Turbo showroom star, there was Janspeed.
The renowned induction specialist converted around 150 RHD Mk4 cars, many of them ‘White Edition’ cars that presaged the later Diamond White RS Turbo. Only five are believed to survive.
Here is one of them. It is a remarkable survivor with less than 70,000 miles from new and just two registered keepers. The current lady keeper acquired the car in 1995 and has kept it usefully standard alongside the sparing use. It retains its Janspeed badging, modifications and white leather cabin.
A current MOT confirms that the car is generally solid and immediately usable. There is some scope to improve the cosmetics, but with summer on its way, perhaps the first thing the buyer will want to do is jump in and experience that forced induction roar.
