The Background

With a wide production run spanning 20 years from 1975 to 1995, the XJ-S was a great success for Jaguar and today represents an iconic, British classic car that is instantly recognisable. Inheriting a strong 5.3-litre V12 from the Series III E-type, the XJ-S offered a shift in nature from sports car to luxurious grand tourer. Thanks to its comfortable ride, luxurious interior, and powerful, smooth engine, the XJ-S was primed for covering long distances in great style.

Offered for auction here is a delightful example of the iconic Jaguar, fitted with an auto gearbox and finished in Westminster blue with a contrasting light grey leather interior.

The History

The seller, a fastidious collector of classics, added this XJ-S to his collection 9 years ago, purchasing it from the outgoing president of the Jaguar owners club – himself having owned and cherished the car for 13 years. Since, it has been enjoyed as a weekend toy, prized among a collection of other classics.

The Paperwork

Every MOT since 1994 has safely been kept in the records for the car, substantiating its 79,000 total miles covered and in July this year, it passed its MOT with no advisories, providing another year’s peace of mind for its next owner.
A comprehensive service history has been maintained with full Jaguar service history up until 61,000 miles at which point the servicing demands were taken on, almost exclusively, by a Jaguar specialist with the most recent service taking place in October of last year. In total, there are 23 stamps in the original service book and, along with original Jaguar handbooks, the current owner has kept numerous bills and correspondence relating to the car since its purchase, including a recent bill totalling £4,000 on new rear brakes, handbrake and ignition items to bring it into excellent condition for its new owner. A record of service history is detailed below:

The Interior

Inside you’ll find that the vast majority of Jaguar’s extensive factory option boxes were ticked by the original owner in 1989, most notably the beautiful light grey interior which presents in fantastic condition. Electric windows, electric heated seats, cruise control and the original radio are all present and are said to be in perfect working order.

Minimal wear can be seen around the interior, with only slight abrasion noted on the driver’s seat and a small split to the veneer by the gearstick. The rear seats are said to never have been sat in and the original carpets are in excellent condition, as too is the roof lining which has been replaced in its lifetime.
In the boot, the original jack can be found in its bag, alongside its complete took kit and un-opened touch-up paints.

The Exterior

Wearing its original Westminster dark blue paint, this Jaguar is in exceptional cosmetic condition with no evidence of respray or welding work having been undertaken.

Unique side strips bearing the Jaguar logo offer a pleasant finishing touch to enhance the overall look. Remarkably, there are said to be no dents or scratches on this XJ-S, with the only minor blemish noted as being a small blister in the paint on the driver’s door which hasn’t caused enough of a detraction in the past 9 years for the seller to address it.

Front spotlights are present, along with original covers and the brightwork is in good condition all around with only slight wear. The wheels and tyres are both in excellent condition. Underneath, the car is said to have had underbody protection applied from new, seemingly responsible for the lack of rust noted.

The Mechanics

Thanks to the aforementioned, extremely well-maintained service record, this XJ-S is claimed to ‘start and stop like a new car’ by the seller. Under the bonnet looks extremely clean and original with no leaks visible and with no advisories noted on the most recent MOT, the next owner can be confident in buying a mechanically sound Jaguar.

The Appeal

A uniquely well cared for example of one of Jaguar’s most iconic outputs, found in exceptional condition that belies its age. Having enjoyed a pampered life from its enthusiast owners, this is a rare chance to own and enjoy a stunning Jaguar XJ-S that wants for nothing and is ready to turn heads with its smooth V12 and glorious looks.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
