The Lotus Carlton was based on the Lotus Omega, an executive saloon that with the British sports car badge was transformed into a 177mph super saloon. It came in just one colour, metallic Imperial green paintwork and had subtle changes on the exterior to let you know it was a bit special. Production was from 1990-1992 when only 320 Carltons were
produced, and 630 Omegas making this a very rare car with at the time supercar
performance. Low mileage examples are now becoming collectors pieces and it has iconic status in the motoring press.
The rear spoiler, cooling vents on the bonnet, a bodykit and wider wheel arches set the stance of the car, plus the additional Lotus badges on the front wings and bootlid.
The car's engine was tweaked from a standard 3 litre 24 V to a 3.6 litre with two Garrett T25 turbochargers added to give the car 377 BHP. The six speed short throw gearbox added even more to the driving experience, what's even more special is that the set up was the very one from the US Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1.
This stunning example is number 0283 and has only had two owners from new, the current one having owned it for four years. His previous car was a Lotus Carlton as well! The
Imperial green paintwork is in very good order and the interior is like new, this shows the care and respect both owners have had for the car.
The seller is looking to move the vehicle on due to relocation and will not have the space to store it, he has enjoyed the car during its ownership and has continued the extensive service history with a file of invoices.
With only two owners the car has a wealth of paperwork, original manuals, service stamps in the book and receipts for all parts required when needed. The last service was in October 2020 and MOT expires in May 2022. The car comes with two sets of keys and a remote fob for the fitted Thatcham CAT 1 alarm system.
Servicing has taken place at specialist Lotus Carlton garage Agamemnon in Daventry, Midlands who are renowned for their knowledge and have a reputation as the go to place for anything related to this rare car. The car has been transported on every journey to the garage as well. BROOKERCARLTON102.jpg5.17 MB
The Interior
This car's two owners have maintained this vehicle to an extremely high level, the interior is pristine, the Connolly leather is in superb condition, just some very light grazing on the drivers bolster, other than that it would not look out of place in a brand new car. Floor
carpets are protected by Carlton carpet mats and are again like new.
All interior trims are clean and void of any wear and tear, all electrics work including the sunroof. Door cards are clean and the walnut inlays and fabric are in fine condition.
The original Blaupunkt Memphis radio cassette head unit works like new, the only area not operational is the CD unit. Headlining is again like new, all fitting correctly, as is the rear sunblind.
The boot area carpet is in great condition, as is the floor underneath the carpet. Spare wheel is an original Good Year and has not been used.
The Imperial Green metallic paintwork is in fine order, the only areas that are affected are the edge of the bonnet with some small chips around the middle and near side front above the headlight, photographs show all areas clearly. A small rivet is protruding from the front bumper which would require some attention.
The only other area that is worthy of mention is the near side sill, a cracking has appeared on the bodykit. Tyres are matching Hankooks which are less than a year old, and all four original alloys are like new, no marks on any of them, again showing the care that has gone into looking after this very special car.
The engine has a nice note to it and turns over without any issues, the recent MOT in May 2021showed no advisories and mechanically we believe this car to be perfect.
As mentioned above, the car has an extensive service history covering its thirty years and nothing has been missed out on maintaining this car to an extremely high standard, the current owner wanting to maintain the car in its original condition at all times. BROOKERCARLTON028.jpg5.78 MB
The Appeal
A super saloon with only 350 being produced as a Carlton Lotus make this car more
desirable than ever, often overlooked at the time due to its price and performance in an executive saloon, as it was competing with super cars at the time.
Now it is a true icon of nineties motoring and number 0283 is your chance to own one of the all time classics, this one in particular is original, serviced extensively and with only two owners and 36500 miles a real gem.
