The Appeal
Introduced in 1989, the R129 generation of Mercedes-Benz SL was a major evolution for the brand, bringing new standards of technology and luxury to the sports car market, along with a much-lauded safety innovation in the form of its pop-up rollover hoop.
The breath-taking styling was the work of Mercedes stalwart Bruno Sacco, his final design of a 40-year career with company. It looked magnificent then and still looks magnificent today. Yet it had plenty more going for it than just looks – it was a wonderfully luxurious grand tourer, powerful yet relaxing to drive.
This example is a 1991 car, untouched by later facelifts and therefore the R129 in its purest form, and absolutely stunning to behold in rare Signal Red.
It’s an astonishing car that has been in the same family ownership from new – mother then son – and comes with a comprehensive history file documenting a lifetime of cherished love and care. It’s an absolutely stunning example – as good an R129 as you’re likely to find and presented in unspoilt original condition.
Overall, a truly remarkable example of a completely original early R129, a Mercedes-Benz model that is on a rapid trajectory to becoming a valuable classic, following in the tracks of the earlier R107 and Pagoda models as an ideal tip for future investment.
It’s in stunning condition inside and out and comes with the desirable option of a factory hardtop and a well-documented service record. An amazing example of an emerging classic in as good condition as you’re likely to find.
