The Appeal

Everyone has a Mini story, don’t they? Few cars are as embedded in the national consciousness as this delightful little foursquare slice of perkiness. Great fun to drive, with a cheeky character all of their own, there’s a reason they remain one of the most popular classics on the scene.
But they often fall prey to heavy customisation and modification. Nothing wrong with that, per se, but it does mean that original, factory specification Minis are becoming thin on the ground.
Which is where this lovely little car comes in. With less than 16,000 miles on the clock and a history of careful use and dry storage, it presents in superbly well preserved condition. There are no modifications and it’s in the same specification as the day it rolled off the production line. A rare and unique survivor, we think this would make for a brilliant, useable modern classic that will be most welcome at any show you care to mention.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in August 1992
  • Two registered owners from new
  • First owner was an elderly gent who only drove the car locally and always kept it garaged
  • Second owner is the garage who maintained the car, they purchased it in August 2016 and have kept it in dry storage
  • The current keeper bought the vehicle about a year ago and has kept it in storage, but never registered the car to themselves
  • Completely standard and unmodified
  • Just 15,370 miles from new
  • Complete with a large history file including the previous and current V5, lots of invoices for maintenance, previous MOT certificates
  • Comes with a period Rover Mini sales brochure and the original book pack
  • Current MOT to January 2024

The Interior

  • Attractive grey vinyl with grey cloth seats faces and door card inserts that feature red, blue and aqua accents
  • The seats look to be in fine fettle, with no significant wear or sagging – in fact the rear bench almost looks as if it’s never been sat on
  • Smart, light grey vinyl headlining, with no damage or sagging we could see
  • Black carpet runs through the cabin and appears to be in good order with no threading or staining
  • Manual windows and door mirrors
  • All of the internal trim and controls wear a light and gentle patina, but no excessive wear we could discern
  • The boot contains a full size spare as well as the battery and cover
  • We’re told by the vendor that everything in this charmingly simple cabin works as it should

The Exterior

  • Original white paintwork, with aqua side stripes and ‘City’ graphics
  • The vendor tells us that the car has never seen the inside of a bodyshop, and has never been welded
  • All of the paintwork looks to be in good order, with a few minor chips and blemishes, as you’d expect for original paint of this age, but overall it’s impressively well preserved
  • The body panels appear to be free from any damage or corrosion and look nice and straight
  • Smart chrome trim adorns the bumpers and and light surrounds and appears to be in good order, with only some slight pitting in a few places
  • The rest of the external trim, including the factory-fitted black wheel arch extensions, show very well, with no obvious damage or wear
  • Underneath, the floors and subframes appear to be lovely and solid, with no significant damage or corrosion we could identify
  • It’s great to see the car still wearing its original dealer window sticker and number plates
  • The dinky steel wheels wear silver coloured plastic wheel trims and are shod in a decent set of tyres that appear to have good tread levels

The Mechanics

  • 998cc naturally aspirated four-cylinder
  • Four-speed manual transmission
  • Nice and tidy engine bay, with no obvious issues and no modifications
  • We noted some surface corrosion to the suspension and braking components
  • We’re assured by the vendor that the car starts on the button and drives just as it should, with no mechanical issues reported at all

Summary

It’s rare to see a Mini of this vintage presented with such low mileage and in factory spec, with no modifications. We’re delighted that this winsome little car has been kept in such fine condition – we think it’s sure to make its next owner very happy indeed.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
