The Appeal

In the late 90s German car makers discovered a new idea: the mind-warpingly quick estate. Mercedes-Benz gave buyers many flavours, all based around a range of rumbling V8s. They were all brilliant.

Alongside the AMG-fettled models, the firm offered the E43, which used the 275bhp M113 4.3litre V8 from the smaller C43. Mixed with high levels of equipment it delivered a more balanced blend of comfort and performance than some of its more powerful cousins.

Any E43 is exceptionally rare, but this Azurite Blue estate particularly so. The stats keep mounting up: under 40,000 miles from new. One keeper from new. Full Mercedes-Benz service history. Alongside the recent service there was a brake fluid change and air conditioning regas. The long MOT, perhaps not surprisingly, has no advisories.

This is a very good example of a practical and entertaining 90s wagon. Buy it as a treat, justify it as a family load lugger.
