The Appeal

Beautifully styled, impeccably engineered, the Aston Martin DB7 was an incredibly pivotal car for the marque, quite possibly the most impactful in its lengthy and impressive history. With investment from new owners Ford and some Jaguar performance knowledge thrown into the mix, what emerged onto the Aston Martin forecourts was nothing short of excellent. The DB7 did a wonderful job of being the archetypal suave luxury performance tourer and affirmed the brand as the go to choice for quality GT cars.
For those who wanted their DB7 with a healthy performance boost over the standard models, the DB7 Vantage was introduced, and to critical acclaim. The sleek GT now had a hand built Aston V12 at the helm to get things moving at an impressive pace which gave the beloved model even more appeal amongst buyers.
In open top Volante format, this 2001 DB7 Vantage comes to us in fine form and is a wonderful presentation of what is rapidly becoming a highly desirable modern classic on the collectors market. That wonderful mix of V12 power and a quality auto box make it an ideal candidate for a mile munching continental road trip or perhaps to see more regular use as an exotic daily driver.

The Interior

  • Quality upholstery throughout
  • Rare mix of blue and cream parchment hide
  • Well presented in good original form

The cabin of the DB7 stands as a wonderful presentation of quality British craftsmanship at its best. Finished in a lesser seen, but effortlessly tasteful blue and cream parchment hide colour scheme, the cabin of the Aston presents rather well, with rich upholstery throughout, highlighting just a light patina commensurate with age in places.
Seating front and rear; the DB7 being a 2+2 layout car,  is in good clean form with just light ageing in areas, the cream parchment hide is in fine form, embossed with Aston Martin logos and complimented well by contrasting navy blue piping. The same can of course be said for the well upholstered door panels on both sides, exhibiting yet more quality hide along with subtle trim and door furniture.
Interior trim and fascias are of a marvellous standard, in a high gloss wood finish these help to give the DB7 that classic old English charm and sit nicely within the well preserved navy dash panel. Switchgear is of a similarly high quality within the cabin, well preserved and lacking in signs of heavier wear or usage, the vendor reports that as they understand everything on this front, including the upgraded JVC radio head unit, works.
Plush carpeting follows the blue motif throughout the interior space and presents in much the same fashion as the rest of the interior fixtures, well preserved with just a light, honest patina. At the rear, we find a well sized boot area which is neat, clean and seems more than capable of taking a weekend's luggage or perhaps a set of golf clubs.

The Exterior

  • Mendip Blue metallic paintwork
  • Soft top folding roof
  • Removable luggage rack

Those three all important words that widen the eyes of just about any car enthusiast, Ian Callum design. The automotive legend has been responsible for some truly impressive automobiles over the years and the DB7 was one such car. Sleek flowing lines and beautiful colour schemes meant the DB7 was and still is a high ranker in the aesthetics department.
This rare Mendip Blue metallic example still looks every bit as elegant as it did rolling off of the forecourt in 2001. Well preserved, the deep blue paint is in good form though exhibiting some slight blemishing in places and general age related marking  and the accompanying external trim pieces are of a good presentable standard.
This being a Volante DB7, we find it equipped with an excellent soft top folding roof. Finished in a similar navy hue, the roof is of a good standard with great high quality upholstery, and operates quickly and smoothly to provide a wonderful open top experience and look for the car.
At ground level we find four smart 18” Aston Martin alloy wheels, in good form though presenting with some kerb rash and slight blemishing to the finish in places.
A removable tailgate mounted luggage rack also comes with the car should the new owner wish to increase the carrying capacity of their DB7 for a longer trip.

The Mechanics

  • Hand crafted V12 engine
  • Upgraded exhaust system fitted
  • MOT’d until September 2024
  • Automatic transmission ideal for touring

Turn the key and it’ll quickly become apparent that this isn't just a standard DB7, if the rear Vantage badge wasn't an immediate getaway, the glorious engine note that emits from the upgraded exhaust system certainly will. What lies under the bonnet of this particular DB7 is an impeccable, hand built 5.9 litre V12 engine, pairing impressive power delivery with a sultry V12 soundtrack.

Helping get that power along the road is a wonderful smooth automatic transmission, refined and well engineered it lends itself well to longer more relaxed drives, but is more than ready to handle a more spirited country road blast if the mood takes you.
This DB7 comes well presented throughout from a mechanical standpoint, having been under the careful eye of Aston Martin specialists Nicholas Mee since purchase by the current owner in 2013. In 2020, some £4700 was spent servicing and refreshing the car from a mechanical standpoint, meaning today it is really in fine fettle.
The vendor reports of a wonderful driving experience from the Aston and speaks of many fond memories of trips undertaken in the last decade. This paired with a lengthy MOT valid until September 2024 means that prospective buyers can rest assured this is one you can rely on from a mechanical perspective.

Summary

The DB7 is a comfortable contender to take a spot in the Aston Martin hall of fame and looks to be heading down the path of becoming an exclusive collectors modern classic. At present they present an exceptional pathway into the world of exotic GT or Aston Martin ownership and this well specced, smartly presented, V12 Volante model must surely be one to consider on that front.
