THE APPEAL
Hot hatches have always been a firm favourite here in the UK thanks to their sporty design and performance-oriented features and in the early 2000s, these pocket rockets were in their element. Civics, Golfs, Clios, every manufacturer was engrossed in producing the next best car but with this development came the increase in size, weight and cost. Volkswagen however, came up with a solution, meet the VW Lupo. This petite offering provided compact enjoyment plus affordable driving, an ideal option for the younger generation and the new driver.
This Lupo is the range-topping GTI model. It's feisty and lightweight with a sultry soundtrack and provides an enormous thrill from its tiny setup. The GTI badge as normal brings performance improvements as well as subtle aesthetic changes. Flared arches, central position dual exhaust, a low sporty stance and a 1.6L DOHC 16-valve motor make this little city car a brilliant bit of kit and an ideal car for the younger enthusiast who’s looking for something a little more exhilarating and a little less boring.

THE APPEAL
There are very few cars that can provide such enjoyment from such a small platform. This Lupo GTI is a pocket-rocket and features some great styling features, such as the rear central exhaust, which also provides a fantastic, moderately loud soundtrack. There are the usual wear indicators but generally, this car is in great shape and will make a great run-around for young, old or anyone in between that wants affordable thrills from a machine that takes up as much space as a hoover.
