The Attractions
It was a bold idea that only Mercedes-Benz could realise. The House of the Three-pointed Star decided to celebrate its new involvement in Formula 1 by creating a modern version of its original Grand Prix-born road-going super sports car, the 300SLR. That famous car was a modified W196S racing car. The new car was to be something similar.
The C199 SLR McLaren was designed in Stuttgart, but everything else was entrusted to McLaren. Respecting the original concept, the SLR incorporated many racing car technologies, including lightweight carbon construction and a flat, aerodynamic underbody. Even the exhaust exits were placed immediately behind the front wheels to avoid disturbing the airflow.
It was - and is - a technological masterpiece. Thanks to its incredible lightness, the supercharged 620 hp 5.4-litre V8 delivers impressive performance. Mercedes-Benz succeeded in creating an exceptional vehicle, capable of outperforming the contemporary offerings of the most established supercar manufacturers such as Ferrari, Aston Martin and Porsche.
Only 1,757 examples were built. These cars tend to remain in the most exclusive collections, so the arrival of this low-mileage example on the market is a rare and very attractive opportunity for enthusiasts. It is a very well-equipped car with only four previous owners and a full Mercedes-Benz service history. It has received recent work including a software update, new batteries and an electrical system check in November. Only 450 km have been covered since the last service.

Last service and other work detailed above
The racing-born road car concept is particularly evident in the SLR's mechanics and structure, which were the work of McLaren. The strong, lightweight carbon chassis provides a flat, aerodynamic bottom and contributes to the almost perfect 50:50 weight distribution. And, of course, it maximises the potential of the supercharged M155 engine.
An engine capable of 620 hp, enough to allow the SLR to outperform the best Ferraris and Porsches available at the time.
The lucky buyer of an SLR will certainly want to ensure that this exceptional performance has been kept properly under control with impeccable maintenance. The careful maintenance this car has received, all carried out by Mercedes-Benz, has been detailed above and is documented in the photographs. It has covered only 450 km since its last service, which was carried out at an official dealer in Italy. Further work was carried out in November 2023, including new batteries, a software update and an electrical system efficiency check. The car has an MOT valid until July 2025 and is offered for sale with no mechanical or other problems to report.
