The Appeal
There’s no obvious reason why Rover’s spirited engineering team dropped a Mustang V8 into the venerable Rover 75 and switched drive to the rear wheels. It cost a fortune and they were never going to sell many. But let us be very glad they did because they created the last great Rover V8 saloon, the final sign off in a long and illustrious tradition.
It was a fitting end. The few who have sampled the handful of production cars know that the 75 V8 is arguably the best of that run of eight pot saloons. Here is your chance to join that select band.
This 2006 75 V8 is one of the 74 RHD Rover-branded - rather than MG-branded - cars. The seller describes it, accurately, as a real “wolf in sheep’s clothing!” Beneath the bonnet is that grunty 4.6L V8 from the Mustang whilst inside is the sort of leather and wood luxury you expect of a Rover.
To all that heart appeal, this one adds a touch of rational sense - it has a LPG fuel system that was fitted when the car was new.
This is a low mileage and very well maintained example of what must surely be a nail-on future classic. It has been recently serviced and has a long MOT to April 2025. One not to miss.
