The Appeal

First launched in 1964, Porsche’s 911 has been continually enhanced and upgraded over the years, but the essential concept has remained the same: a two-door, 2+2, high-performance rear-engined sports car. The engines were air-cooled until the advent of the ‘996’ which arrived in 1998. The 997 version came to market in 2004 and remained in production until 2013. An evolution of the 996, the main changes were to both the interior and exterior styling, in particular a return to the ‘bug-eye’ headlamps of the car’s earlier incarnations.
For the 2009 model year, Porsche launched the ‘Gen II’ version of the 997, known by enthusiasts as the 997.2. The Turbo S (the S stands for sport) iteration was launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 2010 and featured a tuned version of the regular Turbo engine that was claimed to offer an extra 30 bhp over the standard unit. The result was a claimed 0-60mph time of just 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 195mph – making the Turbo S Porsche’s fastest-ever production car at the time.
First registered in late 2012, this example ticks all the boxes: low mileage, sound history and well looked-after. If you want outstanding performance and summer top-down excitement with the option of a hard-top for the winter months, look no further.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered December 2012
  • Full service history
  • UK V5C document
  • Vendor has owned for two years
  • MOT until 22nd July 2024
  • All original manuals, in their folder
  • Lots of past MoTs and invoices
  • Invoices from Porsche main dealers
  • Registration number to be retained by vendor
The car comes with a reassuring folder of paperwork, including all the original owners’ manuals and associated booklets, in their leather folder. There are numerous past MoTs which, combined with the service record book, verify the mileage as genuine.

There are also invoices recording that the car has been carefully maintained – one of the more recent is from July 2022 which records expenditure of just over £2000 at Porsche Centre Portsmouth.

The vendor purchased the car in 2020 as a present to himself on a significant birthday. He now feels that he no longer uses it enough to justify keeping it. Note that the registration plate pictured is a personal number and will be retained by the vendor.

The Condition

  • Classic 911 profile
  • Smart silver paintwork
  • Hood in great condition
  • Excellent hard-top (with Porsche cover)
  • Great wheels and tyres
  • Badges, lights, brightwork all extremely good
  • Leather sports seats
  • ‘+2’ rear seats
  • Leather-trimmed steering wheel
  • Bose sound system
  • Smart carpets and over-mats
The 997 had more traditional 911-styling than its 996 predecessor, and that classic 911 silhouette is still as distinctive and iconic as ever. Unusually for a convertible, the 997 looks fabulous whether top-down, with the hood up or with the (supplied) hard-top in place.
The silver paint here looks fantastic, and much of it has been protected by plastic film. There are a couple of marks on the film on the offside wing – the vendor hopes to address these before sale – and a couple of hard-to-spot ones on the front bonnet. Otherwise the bodywork is outstanding.
Similarly the hard-top (which has been kept indoors in its genuine Porsche fabric cover) has barely a mark on it, while the fabric hood is also in first-class condition. The vendor will also supply an original indoor car cover in its original bag, and a rack for storing the hard-top.
All four wheels are in very good condition for their age, with only one showing a couple of minor scuffs, and the tyres have plenty of tread. The badges and brightwork are in excellent condition, while the lights have no cracks, chips or clouding.

The car’s interior is testament to its low mileage and cosseted life. The black leather seats are in excellent condition, with no marks or significant wear. Likewise, the carpets are all extremely good, and have been protected by genuine Porsche overmats.
The rear seats show some small dents in the leather bases, while the seat backs fold down to create additional luggage space. The leather-trimmed steering wheel, dashboard and door panels are all unmarked, while the switchgear and electronics all work as they should. The Bose sound system sounds fantastic and would enhance the driving experience.
In the middle of the dashboard top we find the distinctive stopwatch, included as part of the Sport Chrono pack – standard on the Turbo S.
In the front luggage compartment, the lining is in excellent condition and there is an original warning triangle, plus a small toolkit in its slot. There’s an unopened canister of tyre sealant, complete with original plastic wrapping, and the tyre compressor in its case, plus the original case for a bottle of oil.

The Mechanics

  • 3.8-litre turbocharged flat-six
  • PDK 7-speed double-clutch transmission
  • Sport Chrono Plus pack
  • New a/c condenser
  • Full service in July 2022
Bridging the gap between road car and track-only racer, the Turbo S is renowned for its searing performance and beautiful handling.
Originally developed for motorsport, the PDK transmission featured here is highly regarded.  In auto mode, when one gear disengages the next is engaged so quickly that the interruption in power is reputedly almost imperceptible, with claimed shift times of under 100 milliseconds. The rapid and near-seamless shift speed boosts comfort as well as performance, with ultra-smooth shifting when the gearbox is left in fully automatic mode.
The car is fitted with the Sport Chrono Plus package, which, on the push of the ‘Sport’ button on the centre-console, changes the engine management, stability and suspension systems to give the car a livelier, more exciting feel. The ‘Plus’ spec enables favoured settings to be saved for up to three separate ignition keys, enabling individual drivers to have the car’s functions set to how they prefer them.
The car starts readily and the engine has a lovely tone. The vendor assures us that it drives and handles as the model’s awesome reputation would suggest. The car had a full service at Porsche Centre Portsmouth in July 2022, including a change of brake fluid, and additional work done included the replacement and re-gassing of a leaking air-conditioning condenser (the condenser’s position makes it vulnerable to stone damage).
The car’s rear engine means that there is little to see beneath that boot-lid, but everything appears to be in good order, with no obvious leaks. Similarly, it’s not possible to see much of the car’s underside, but it appears to be in very good condition for the car’s age.
