The Appeal

In the pantheon of modern classics, this era of Maserati is surely the very embodiment of the phrase itself. With a trident on the nose and a Ferrari-derived V8 under the bonnet, this car represents an impressive chapter in the marque’s history.

When it came time to develop a grand tourer in the traditional style for the 2007 model-year, the result was something elegant and spacious with desirable styling, a powerful and torque-rich eight-cylinder engine, and the long-leggedness to waft its occupants across continents in style. The name for this quintessential gran turismo? Why, they called it Maserati GranTurismo. But of course.

This 2018 example benefits from the myriad improvements that have been made to the model over its lifespan, most notably the upgrade to the 4.7-litre engine; this revised powerplant for the Sport model puts out a stirring 454bhp, and sounds absolutely terrific.

With just 21,000 miles on the clock and two owners from new, this is a very desirable example of the breed; with full service history and a fresh service very recently by marque specialists Autofficina, this is a red-blooded sports tourer that’s ready to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

The Condition

  • Lovely condition inside and out
  • Original toolkit
The Grigio Metallic paint is an elegant choice for the GranTurismo, and it all presents very well here – in-keeping with the car’s low mileage, and the fact that it’s evidently been properly looked after.

The only minor blemishes to note are a small scuff on one corner of the rear bumper, and another on the lower offside edge of the front bumper which has been touched in.

The 20” alloy wheels are a striking and attractive design, and wear matching Pirelli tyres with plenty of tread. The light lenses and window glass are all good, and all of the correct trim and badging is in place.

Inside the cabin, we find that wholesome cocooning effect that’s so characteristic of these comfortable grand tourers, at once spacious and cosy. The half-leather/half-Alcantara seats are pleasantly supportive and all in super condition, the electric motors pulling the seats forward when tilted to allow access to the rear. The factory-fit multimedia system is in correct working order, and there are no warning lights illuminated on the dash.

Inside the boot we find the original Maserati-embossed liner, along with the correct tyre inflater and toolkit.

The Mechanics

  • Ferrari-derived 4.7-litre V8
  • 6-speed ZF auto
The venerable Ferrari-Maserati 4.7-litre V8 engine serves up a handy 454bhp and makes some glorious noises, mated to a 6-speed ZF auto with paddle-shift. The history file demonstrates a full service history, and today it presents as an eminently usable machine that drives just as it should.

The engine fires up eagerly and settles into a characteristic burbly idle, pulling keenly through the revs with the transmission shifting smoothly. Everything appears to be equally good with the steering, brakes and suspension; with no evident issues here, this is a performance machine that’s ready to enjoy. And you’ll find the rev blips on downshifts supremely addictive!

Summary

This Maserati has a very fine spec, along with a reassuring service book. With its evocative and big-hearted V8, a tastefully trimmed and well equipped interior, all wrapped up in effortlessly stylish Pininfarina design, this sharply-suited Maser suavely cuts a dash on the high street, loves carving up country roads and mountain passes, devours motorways with aplomb, and does so while serving up a heavenly engine sound.

It’s wonderfully comfortable, achingly pretty, always entertaining – and if you’ve ever idly wondered about buying one of these cars, now is surely the time to make that dream come true.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
