A beautiful Mercedes 123 diesel estate that has been in the hands of one owner since 1986.
Mercedes’ legendary 123 was at its most sought after in estate form and particularly the everlasting diesel. Here was a car that could do anything, go anywhere for seemingly unlimited miles. Unfortunately, this has meant that most were simply used up years ago after covering colossal mileages. So, this example in superb condition with excellent history, sensible mileage and low ownership is a rare find today.
Finished in Thistle Green metallic with green cloth trim this 300TD is equipped with the desirable five-speed manual gearbox, electric window, alloy wheels, radio and a manual sliding sunroof, in addition to the central locking and power steering fitted as standard.
The car was first registered on August 1st 1984 and belonged to a Haulage firm in Sheffield for two years before being sold again by Lancaster of Ipswich to a Mr Gahagan who owned the car until his death earlier this year. He looked after the car beautifully, always garaging the car, and only taking it to the Mercedes main dealer for servicing and repairs.
In terms of history the car has a full Mercedes Benz service history comprising of a folder with every invoice from Mercedes dealers Lancaster, Ipswich and subsequently Waterhouse of Chelmsford since 1986. Quite a fantastic provenance detailing all the work and servicing that has been carried out over the years.
As the photographs show, the car is in lovely condition throughout. The body is superb and original underneath – the biggest concern with these today – and on top with excellent paintwork and chrome, plus unmarked ‘Mexican Hat’ alloy wheels. The interior is in fantastic, original condition with perfect carpets in the load bay area. Working period stereo and original Mercedes overmats.
Mechanically the car is in superb order, starts instantly and once up to speed cruises in a wonderfully relaxed manner.
A recommissioning service has recently been carried out including an overhaul of the brakes.
In summary, a fantastic original 123 estate, largely one owner, sensible mileage and with a superb history. A great find.
