Classic Car Design presents this beautiful 1992 Mercedes 500 SL cabriolet in an original, refined shade—Bornit—perfectly matched with grey leather upholstery. Launched in 1989, the R129 succeeded the R107 after nearly two decades of service for the latter. Much more technologically advanced, it delivers high-level performance and a sleek, flowing profile thanks to designer Bruno Sacco. It has since become a classic among the “modern” SLs.
Out in the world, the two-tone bodywork is in overall very good condition, with very little sign of use. The 16-inch Alamak wheels show no signs of impacts or scuffing. The hard-top, supplied with the car, completes the power electro-hydraulic soft top.
Inside, the grey leather upholstery is very well preserved, as are the dashboard and the central wooden console. The front seats, with orthopaedic backrests, are electrically adjustable and heated; they show no obvious wear. Note that this is a four-seat version. The air conditioning is perfectly functional. This particular example is fitted with rear seats, a less common configuration for this model.
Mechanically, the car is powered by the 5-litre V8 mated to a 4-speed automatic gearbox—an engine choice renowned for its reliability. The whole package offers smooth operation and plenty of urge. The non-piloted suspension provides excellent road manners, with a comfort-oriented setup and improved long-term reliability. The car is equipped with cruise control. Offered to its current owner by the well-known company Rock N Roll classics, the service book and Carpass show regular maintenance, largely carried out by Mercedes-Benz dealers.
