HERE is my delightful 1979 Ford Capri Mark III 2. 0GL. She is an early Mark III on a V plate and looks lovely in her original livery of Sirius Red Metallic with chocolate velour upholstery. Yes, I know. How 70s!
The classic car loving chap from whom I bought this 2. 0GL was just the third owner of this Capri. The original owner kept her for 32 years. Hard to believe wouldn't you say? But I would imagine that it was his caring ownership for more than three decades which helped to mould her into the car she is today. The 65, 000 miles on the clock, I am told, are correct and I would imagine that they are. She is in really nice order both outside and in. The alloys are clearly not the originals but the original wheels come with the car should you feel the urge to swap them over. The previous owner of more than three years told me that there was some evidence of panel rust towards the front end of the car, but the car was sent to a professional body shop where any bad bits were cut out and replaced by specially fabricated metal pieces. This skilful operation was applied from the very front of the vehicle all the way to the rear ends of the doors. You would never have a clue of any of this if I had no pointed it out. I would suggest that the rear arches had undergone some kind of remedial work prior to this, although I must stress they are perfectly liveable with. However, two arch repair sections come with the car should you choose to improve.
She drive superbly, feeling tight and fresh. Not in the least bit tired. She has a current MoT (no advisories) until May 2019. Interior-wise she is is stunning. Everything looks to be original. The seats are in top order as is the dashboard and headlining. Carpets are excellent.
I know I have probably been watching too many re-runs of The Professionals with Dodie and Boyle (sorry, it's the other way round!) and I couldn't resist this piece of pure 1970s nostalgia. I had them first time around and they are still great fun behind the wheel.
Should you opt to purchase a classic car from me - classic meaning that it will be the equivalent of a motoring antique - then you are accepting that the vehicle will have had faults in the past and that, inevitably, there will be more to deal with in the future. Almost certainly and unless stated otherwise, the vehicle will have undergone some degree of restoration work and, again, it is more than likely it will need more at some stage during its life. I am a one-man enthusiast who enjoys unearthing these old girls and finding new homes for them. Viewing is highly recommended and then you can form your opinion of an aged vehicle just as I will have already formed mine. Modern-day life practically dictates that the majority of classic vehicles - and it is certainly the case with mine - are sold via internet advertising and with the added bonus of digital photographs. Extra and specific photographs will also be available on request. Should you choose to buy without viewing in person then please don't tell me a month later that the horn doesn't work, the full beam is faulty or that you have found some ancient repair of which I knew nothing. My terms therefore are that by buying from me you are accepting that, almost inevitably, classic vehicles will require further remedial work at some stage.
