SUMMARY
This somewhat rare W202 C220 Sport was sold new by Derwent Mercedes of Leeds, back in 1994. It was specified from new with the optional at the time AMG kit (as fitted to the C36 AMG), Lorinser rear spoiler, 15" AMG mono block alloys, bringing the purchase price up to a staggering £30, 000. It was owned by same gentleman for 21 years, until he passed away in 2015. I actually remember seeing this very car parked in the market car park in Keighley, back in the 1990's, and many times as a car mad "twenty something", I thought to myself that I'd love to own a car like that some day! Following the original owners death, it was subsequently bought by a friend and colleague of his, who went on to spent quite a considerable sum on its up keep and maintenance. I then bought the car from him last year, as it was surplus to his requirements, with him just having just taken delivery of a C350 CDi.
Although I've done quite a few jobs on this car, I'm essentially now selling it on an "as is" basis, the reason being that to get it to the near perfect standard I'd want it to be, would take up too much time and precious resources. Please don't misunderstand though, as you can see from the photos, the car is perfectly usable and very presentable as it is, and really does have some road presence too. It's also recently passed it's MOT with no advisory notices issued. It drives incredibly well, is great fun, and really is quite quick, and handles superbly. It also attracts some very admiring looks too, however it has got a few age related marks here and there, however in a sense that makes it easier to own as you feel it's not too precious to use, and as a result I've really enjoyed driving this car; its one of those cars that doesn't look out of place anywhere.
All things considered, you could run this car as it is, or improve it as you go. Its one of those cars that if something big does go wrong with it, you can't really loose, as the now super rare AMG body kit (as fitted to the C36 AMG), AMG wheels and interior if sold separately, would exceed what I'm asking for the car, as these parts are very sought after, but now unavailable from Mercedes. Just as a quick example, the fog lights in the front bumper alone are selling for anything between £300-£500!.
So, if you want a car that really does looks the part, but isn't too good to use and and enjoy, yet is a pleasure to drive, and won't loose a fortune, this has to be a contender. The W202 C-Class, at last, is starting to find favour among enthusiasts, and rare Sport models like this one, will always be very much in demand.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have.
